You all know I won't jailbreak my iPhone :)</em></p><p><em>Anyways, it's really simple. This is all you need to do:</em></p><p><em>#1. Get this $0.99 app called frostyplace from the iTunes store [ <a href="http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=290116587&amp;mt=8" target="_blank">link</a> ]</em></p><p><em>#2. Play with the app for a minute to activate, click on a story, etc</em></p><p><em>#3. Go into you settings -&gt; General &gt; International &gt; Keyboards &gt; Japanese</em></p><p><em>#4. Click the Emoji option to on!</em></p><p><em>#5. Text anyone with an iPhone and they'll get your icons!"</em></p><p><img src="http://images.thoughtsmedia.com/resizer/thumbs/size/600/at/auto/1232973604.usr18053.jpg" style="border: 1px solid #d2d2bb;" /></p><p>Well, I did it and it worked like a charm.&nbsp; Emoji icons are just one more thing that I don't get the regional restriction on.&nbsp; Are Japanese people the only folks who may want to send a smiley every now and then?&nbsp; Anyway, Justine notes that if you don't get the option for the Emoji keyboard right away, you may have to click around in the Frostyplace app for a bit to get it to become available, but once it does, you're golden.&nbsp; Fun stuff!</p>

I did this too and it worked as advertised.

Just wanted to point out that this is not just for messaging- you can use them anywhere you enter text. So you can spruce up your Notes, Calendar and Contacts entries etc with Emoji. One commenter from another site said he was using them to implement make-shift categories in his Calendar.

Took a long time for the option to show up on mine. The catch is you need to have a 3G to use/see it. If the person receiving it has a 2G the emoticon shows as a plain box.

I have two 2G phones and one 3G phone and all 3 phones display the Emoji (and I tested sending messages from the 3G to the 2G before I ran FrostyPlace on the 2G and the Emoji showed up fine). I think the catch is that you must be on the 2.2 firmware to see Emoji not which model of phone you have.

Hmmm my daughters 2G is at 2.2 because I updated it myself. There are other reports about 2G's with 2.2 not displaying them to. So they should be able to . . .

I haven't used this app yet but it shouldn't matter if your iPhone it 2G or 3G. That has nothing to so with the Emoji icons. There must be something with the install.
