View Full Version : Win a [Nearly] New White Zune

Jason Dunn
05-17-2007, 05:00 PM
Ok, so here's the deal: remember my dusty white Zune? I sent it back to a great contact I have at Microsoft on the Zune team, because he wanted to see it (it seems I'm one of the few people that got a dusty Zune), and he sent me a replacement white Zune. When my Zune arrived at Zune HQ, apparently an engineer cracked it open and cleaned out all the dust - and my contact offered to send it back to me. So now that means I have an "extra" Zune (I still have the black one that's dysfunctional), and you know what that means...giveaway! We want to spread the Zune love here at Zune Thoughts, so whether you already have a Zune and want to give this to someone else, or you're lacking in the Zune-owning department, enter in our little contest.

How do you win? Simple: register in our forums and post a message in this thread telling me one song or band that you're enjoying right now. Seven days from now (on the 24th of May) at noon I'll do a random drawing, and one person will win the Zune. I'll ship it anywhere in the world, and I'll include a Zune Thoughts micro light as well. One entry per person allowed, all decisions final, and the winner has 14 days to claim their prize or I'll pick someone else.

And in case you're wondering, the Zune is in pristine condition - no scratches, nicks, dents, or anything else. The Zune box on the other hand, looks like it's been through a war. But it's not like you're going to carry it around with you, right? Exactly.

UPDATE: Oh, and I should add that if you don't see your post appear right away, it's because it's your first post and I need to approve it. Hang tight and don't re-post right away.

With Zune market place, I discovered Rick Wakeman's solo albums, and this song is the best I'm listening at the time being.

Even though I've had my Zune since last December I hadn't activated my 14-day trial until 2 weeks ago when I felt I had enough free time to make good use of it. I've been having a ball and just activated the monthly subscription pass yesterday as it was the last day on my 14-day trial.

I haven't checked out any new bands lately as I've been traveling down memory lane. So right now my Zune is playing all of the Moody Blues albums I listened to in high school. My favorite of them is still "On The Threshold of a Dream" and on it I like "Have You Heard".

Since I obviously already own a Zune, if I win this one it will go to my wife who I've been trying to convince she needed a DAP. Having her cruise through the Zune marketplace during our trial period, I think I've just about convinced her as she didn't hesitate when I said I wanted to sign up for the monthly pass. :D

Hi there, I would really love to win the zune as my current mp3 player seems to be on it's way out.
I love so many different types of music that I have a new favourite band each week but right now I am hooked on a little known artist by the name of Ulrich Schnauss and the track "Clear Day" from the album "A Strangely Isolated Place". There's something really beautiful about it but I can't put my finger on it. There is a video on youtube with it playing in the background while a guy is cycling all over the place but the sound quality is awful and doesn't do the song justice, here it is
http://youtube.com/watch?v=9HOVwJq8b5A
I also think the zune pass subscription would really satisfy my constant desire for finding new music.:)

I know I'm not eligible to enter because I'm rocking the Smartphone Thoughts world but I still wanted to share some artist that I'm listening to right now.

Both of these artists are local Portland, Oregon artists and they're both just incredible. One of them even has both of their albums on Zune Marketplace!

They are the The Freemartins and Russell Stafford. If you search the Marketplace for The Freemartins you can view/purchase both of their albums (The Prime Directive Is The Groove and Scientifically Engineered To Rock). As for Russell, he isn't on the marketplace yet but is trying to sign a deal to be distributed on iTunes, Marketplace and other digital music venues.

If you would like to hear Russell Stafford's music, you can do that on his site (http://russellstaffordmusic.com/music.html). After sitting down and talking with Russell yesterday and telling him about my Zune, he got super excited about people being able to beam his tracks to their friends and encouraged me to have people download his tracks from his site. :)

Personally, I see the Zune doing greater things for independent artists than the Internet ever could and I'm glad artist like Russell are embracing this new technology and encouraging people to download and beam his music to their friends.

With spring coming around for Northeast USA, I can finally drive with the car windows down. I've been driving home from work with Nickelback's album "All the Right Reasons". The songs are so summertime rock for me.

I'm sure it would sound much better on a Zune than my old 6GB Zen!

Thanks for offering the contests Jason!

I'm currently enjoying Snow Patrol a lot. My wife and I recently went to see them in concert and it was quite a treat. I thought they might be a little too introspective for a concert, but I was wrong. Change introspective to emotionaly charged and you would have an apt discription.

Now of couse my wife is jelous of my zune and wants to enjoy Snow Patrol on her very own.

I am ready to pull the trigger on ditching my ipods and buying a couple Zunes. Unfortunately, my wife won't be able to handle the 'less than user friendly' steps to get podcasts onto the player. Hopefully we'll see the new zunes and new features soon.

I've been on the look out for new music lately and have found some decent bands that I hadn't really listened to before. Cursive is a new favorite band.

I have really been enjoying Rocky Votolato recently. The "Automatic Rifle", "Prison is Private Property" and "Montana" tracks from the album "Suicide Medicine" are all great songs. I've been meaning to check out some of his newer stuff also.

Believe it or not, I'm MP3-less, and I've been admiring the Zune for sometime. I'm pretty excited about the thought of a flash Zune, which will be great for the gym and easier on the pocketbook...:)

"Perfect Situation" by Weezer has been running through my head almost nonstop for two days... for some reason I seem to REALLY like its music video. I don't really know why.

Jason Mraz and Linkin Park's new Minutes to Midnight album are also finding a lot of time in my rotation, the latter of which has starting growing on me more and more with every listen.

I'm currently listening to The New Deal. They're a Canadian "live electronic" band that plays breakbeat, downtempo, and techno with real instruments (probably the hardest-working drummer you'll ever see).

The album you want to start with is Gone Gone Gone. It represents most of their styles, and has some very juicy guest vocals -- Feist is on one track!

The band I'm listening to is COLD. They arent new, they actually broke up:( , but they always made me think there's more to life, and to never give up faith... even when Im at my lowest like these past few weeks.

That's easy - it would have to be Pink Floyd's album Pulse. Its a live album that everyone should carry around on them at all times. Purists of the Floyd would have you believe its not a great album because Syd Barrett had departed, but it sure works for me.

they sucks...if you know something about reggae in general. the Panamanian (I'm one) were the ones first with the best productions of spanish reggae. Ask El General, Nando Boom, Chichoman, and others panamanian reggae singers.

The new blood is good too. With singers as Match & Daddy, Comando Tiburón, La Factoria, Aldo Ranks, Danger Man and many others.

i'm afro antillian and I know that panamanian reggae represent more the reggae genre than anything from Puerto Rico.

Did they keep making music after the 80's? I've heard rumors, but have never actually heard newer music.

I'm currently listening to Ted Nugent stuff trying to get ready for his upcoming concert next month here in good ol' Houston.

I've been using an iPod Mini (the FIRST generation they ever made) and would like to update to something that has more storage and more usability.

Listening to Wings for Marie and title track of 10,000 days by Tool. I truly love this band... Lots of diverse musical tastes in here. I'm surprised actually as I've never heard of some of the bands people have mentioned. I think it would be cool if we all posted a link to information about the band so we can all discover a bit of new music. I know some already have..

I actually bought a Zune when it was new and was just really unhappy with it. Since then they've made some updates that have apparently fixed the issues I had with it... would be fun to play around with it again, but you know. Good luck to every one.

In answer to the actual question, I've been listening to a lot of "Baby 81" by Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Just an absolutely excellent rock album. I loved their last album ("Howl"), but it turned a lot of people off... a lot more mellow, more Americana based. This is more like their old stuff, but I think "Howl" helped mature their sound.

Very recommended.

I have been a Zune skeptic, but since my brother mentioned that he might be getting one (since his iPod was stolen), I keep thinking how cool it would be to use "social" functions of the Zune with him (swapping songs and pictures). So here I go.

I've been loving a band called Arcade Fire. I recently discovered them on eMusic.com (http://www.emusic.com) and after listening to their album Funeral, I had to get everything else they put out. I've given their albums a couple of listens in just the past week. Great stuff.
