<p>I hope everyone that celebrates it had a Merry Christmas yesterday. For the first time, the annual "What did you get" post is across all of the Thoughts Media sites, so we should see an interesting mix of items.</p><p><img alt="Ho Ho Ho!" border="0" src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/hansberry/2003/20031225-santa.gif" /></p>

I asked for and got a Celio Redfly for my Sprint Touch. I know that many people don't think much of them, but with the price drop it seemed like a reasonable way to get a keyboard and bigger screen for my phone, which is my primary mobile device.

After playing with it a bit, I'm a bit disappointed in the keyboard. It is very small and harder to touch-type on than my old Stowaway Bluetooth keyboard from ThinkOutside. The screen on the Redfly is very nice, especially when reading email, but I was surprised at how many applications don't scale properly to it (or work at all). The Opera 9.x browser beta is one big disappointment. It doesn't work at all on the Redfly. I guess I'll be back to the lousy old PIE when I'm connected to the device.

I'm going to spend a lot more time getting to know the Redfly before I render a final verdict. I do really like the size of it and it appears sturdy and very well built. It looks great, too.

The kids got a Wii and they and I have been playing a ton of Wii Sports and Lego Star Wars. Fun stuff!

This year I didn't receive any tech, but I certainly gave alot to the family.

My oldest son got an eMachine 1200 PC to replace his dead desktop
My youngest son received a Compaq laptop that I bought at Walmart for $299

Both boys got new Nintendo DS because their current ones were falling apart.

Santa delivered an iPod Nano

My daughter finally convinced us to get her a cell phone

And I bought my dad a DLink wireless print server to share his new internet access to his two computers.

So I get the fun of setting everything up...

(Merry Christmas)

My Christmas was pretty tech free for me as well. Kids got the Wii Fit and Rock Band 2, plus some other games. My stash consisted of a number of DVDs and books, which will keep me busy for the next week or so as I take some time off from work.:)

For me: Samsung Blu-Ray! (But I can't get it to connect to the network....grrr....)

For wifey: 40" LCD for the bedroom! (she actually asked for it)

Kids: WiiFit, PSP, iHome, some Wii games (Shaun White and Clone Wars were the best) and a Clone Trooper helmet (my personal favorite!)

I had a great Christmas but the blu-ray Narnia: Prince Caspian movie I got had two Memorex CD-R disc's instead of the movie and extra content blu-ray's. The digital copy disc was there and working. I didn't use it since that required registration and my sister-in-law, who bought it for me, is going to exchange it.

It was bought at Target and in shrink wrap with the sticker on the top and everything. I couldn't believe it. I also got Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe on blu-ray and that was fine.

It was a great Christmas with lots of family, food, and other presents!

got a sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 lense for my nikon d200 and a few extras for my flash units. An asus eee pc 1000h. And finally a bose 3-2-1 for out bedroom (really the best fit for this type of unit).

In return I rebuilt my in-laws desktop because of a disk failure and setup a new laptop my niece got for xmas.

Not a bad year considering...:D

I treated myself to some tech in the weeks prior to Christmas. Picked up a 52" Sharp Aquos, a Sony BluRay player, and a second 22" monitor. My family usually avoids buying me tech, but I did get Seasons 1 and 2 of Dexter and a Wii Zapper and House of the Dead for Wii, so there will be some dead zombies in the next few days. Also, got a nice bottle of Scotch, Scotchity, Scotch, Scotch, Scotch.

Got a 32" LCD for the bedroom, an espresso maker, the Sony Digital Reader (mostly for my wife) and a bunch of ebooks including "The Charlemagne Pursuit." My son got one of those Zero Gravity RC cars. It's cool - really does go on walls and the ceiling. My wife asked him how he likes it and his reply was: "I'm not sure, I'll let you know when dad gives it back!":)

It has been a "no tech" Christmas for me. But I still got one of the best things ever: my first son was born on December 22nd. It's fantastic. I'm pretty sure though, that I'll get myself a HTC Touch HD in January. :-)

I got a Fujitsu Lifebook U820 (http://store.shopfujitsu.com/fpc/Ecommerce/buildseriesbean.do?series=U820)UMPC. It's a sweet little bugger, but was an indulgence cost-wise. :D

I received a nice set of collector baseballs from my girlfriend's mother which will be going up on my sports shelf in my office (go Cowboys.

The best gift for me was my girlfriend gave me (how she found it I have no idea since I had never heard of it) Prince's Indigo Nights / Live Session CD in London.

The best gift for me was seeing our daughters eyes light up with the MAC Book Pro I gave her (These things are way over priced), but it was what she wanted and needed. Heck, this thing is so sweet I am tempted to get one for myself.

But the best gift for me was a framed 8x10 picture of my daughter just for dad.

The only piece of tech I got was a pair of Shure earphones. An excellent present as I go through headphones at a frightening rate (1-2 pairs a year).

My relatives and friends usually avoid buying me techy gifts. They know I have no willpower and buy everything I need, and more, myself. :)

Before I get to myself, I tried my best to find a Zune Speaker dock system for my fiancé @ a LOCAL store here in town (Denver, CO). I was shocked that most stores stopped carrying Zune Accessories 3-6 months ago due to low demand. Microcenter, BestBuy, Ultimate Electronics and a few more stores that used to carry Zune stuff no longer support it anymore. Should I be worried? Because of that reason I’m seriously thinking about switching out HER Zune for an iPod—that’ll be a pain the butt though because of all the potential DRM/software license issues. It’s just frustrating because Microsoft doesn’t seem to be pushing Zune very well and it’s losing support from major stores as a result. I got her a crock pot instead (next on her list) lol.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

Dead zombies and scotch? That sounds like a fun night all around :D

I didn't really get any tech presents from anyone else this year, though I did buy myself a fancy Acer Aspire One and a extra 1GB stick of RAM. Also, like Chris, I too got a nice bottle of scotch from a client - Macallan 12yr.

That is what my daughter has been saying about this super cool planetarium/projector contraption I bought her :p

I got a totally unexpected iPod Touch today. Didn't think I needed one, given my Windows Mobile Phone and the 3G iPod I got last year.

I was wrong. As much as I like my phone, I find the Touch's screen and browser just so dang sexy that I don't even know if I can go back to looking at the browser on my phone ever again.

Haven't even watched any movies or listened to music on it yet:rolleyes:.

Well, I can haz flight cancellations so I still haven't opened presents with my family yet, but so far from my in-laws:

1) A container of homemade butter tarts. Aw yeah.
2) A big Toblerone bar
3) A box of Glosette Raisins
4) Amazon gift card

Basically, one heck of a tasty pile :) Of course, I played Santa for myself and found the following under the tree:

1) Canon 5D Mark II
2) Canon 70-200 f/2.8 IS Lens

But honestly, so far the butter tarts are the best!

Haha! Bad dad! Though I'd probably have done the same thing.

Browser's not bad, but it doesn't handle large pages too well (loads pages partially so you'll need to wait for the device to render it. So there are times when my E71 is better, despite the smaller screen.

I get by with the best of both worlds by using my phone to act as a wifi router. Technicaly I get dual screens on the go if I feel like it. :P Now I just need a contraption to hold both devices together with one hand.

As for myself, I got myself a lens. Not new, but second hand. That's about it in terms of tech gifts.

Thank you so much. :):):) Yep, actually I wonder if I could get an "awake during the day - sleep at night" application for him. :p

Oh, and nice that you had a Macallan. That's a very good Scotch! :D

M2TS is AVCHD. You have to import them into some kind of video editor (try Sony Vegas) and then export from there and you should be fine. ;)
