It&rsquo;s highly portable and its keyboard makes it much more useful than netbooks with smaller keys. The configuration in this review has a retail price of $464.99 and will provide the vast majority of consumers a solid portable web, email and productivity experience. Business professionals looking for an enterprise-class computer should avoid the Mini 1000, along with all current netbooks."</em></p><p><img src="http://images.thoughtsmedia.com/resizer/thumbs/size/600/dht/auto/1229882000.usr20447.jpg" style="border: 0px solid #d2d2bb;" /></p><p>Notebooks.com puts the HP Mini 1000 through its paces, and finds a lot to like.&nbsp; From the touch-typable keyboard to the stylish looks, the Mini 1000 addresses many of the complaints of first generation netbooks.&nbsp; They do recognize that this netbook is targeted towards the consumer market.&nbsp; It definately sounds like netbooks have found a sweet spot in terms of size and usability which closely matches the ultraportable segment.&nbsp; Thankfuly, they're much cheaper!&nbsp; Now HP is looking to make Netbooks fashion aware.&nbsp; While their styling doesn't quite suit my tastes, I'm sure some people covet their dark copper look, or the soon to be released Vivienne Tam edition.</p>

Saw this in person at Costco today. Very nice. This is the first netbook that has the balance of small size with a screen still large enough that my wife liked it, so this will probably be a replacement laptop for her in the next few months.

Played with one at Best Buy today. Very nice. Easily the thinnest one I've used to date. The 16GB SSD drive was fairly snappy. No memory card slot though. This unit is the 1030NR and it retails for $399

HP was late to the game (the HP 2133 Mini Note doesn't really count IMO), but it looks like it was worth the wait...as long as you can get by with 60 GB of storage. I didn't realize there was no memory card slot though - that kind of sucks. :( But definitely a nice netbook...

Are you sure about the lack of a memory card slot? I didn't look for one (just assumed it was there). But here is a quote from the review -

"On the right side of the notebook is a SD Card /MultiMedia Card reader, a USB port and a lanyard slot. Many netbooks and full-sized notebooks have shallow SD Card slots, which means your memory cards hang out of the side of your computer. But the Mini 1000’s card slot is deep enough to hold the SD card flush to the side of the netbook. This means you can stow an SD card semi-permanently in the Mini 1000 without worrying about knocking it out of the slot or losing it."

It's possible I just missed it. Could it be the model I looked at is different from the original Mini 1000? The one at Best Buy is designated as the 1030NR. If I have time I'll swing by again today look closer.
