Literally. There's no doubt that this refresh is entirely overdue, and we still hold that Apple should've taken the opportunity to refresh its now-archaic 20 and 30-inch counterparts. All that aside, this writeup is about the new 24-incher, a LED-backlit beauty that doesn't mind being called glossy and is clearly partial to notebooks. The screen packs the same 1,920 x 1,200 resolution that was on the 23-incher it replaced, but ditches that DVI connector in favor of the newer, less widely adopted DisplayPort. So, is the newfangled screen worth $899? Read on to find out."</em></p><p><img src="http://images.thoughtsmedia.com/resizer/thumbs/size/600/at/auto/1229432348.usr18053.jpg" style="border: 1px solid #d2d2bb;" /></p><p><em>Photo Credit: Darren Murph, Engadget</em></p><p>Engadget puts the new 24" Cinema Display through its paces and finds plenty to like and dislike about it.&nbsp; I won't steal their thunder by quoting too much about it, but I think I can interpret the bottom line thusly:&nbsp; It's a great screen, albeit glossy, with great sound and neat connectivity options (read: the MagSafe port) but at the same time they don't like that it uses only MiniDP rendering it useless for everything but the new line of notebooks.&nbsp; For more in depth explanations / detail, do check out the review.&nbsp; It's quite thorough.</p><p>As for whether or not I'll be buying one?&nbsp; I honestly don't think so.&nbsp; At least not until the price comes out of the stratosphere.</p>

Of course it's overpriced. Was that even in question ? :p Indeed the display is fantastic and a little brighter overall (and more uniform from corner to corner) than my 24" Alum iMac.

I hate that Apple keeps the prices of their displays where they do, but that being said they are frigging gorgeous.

Have you seen one in person Vincent ? That's what sold me on it. I moved the 24" iMac to my office and now use the 13" Unibody MacBook and this display at home.

Not yet :-) I can't afford it so I'm scared to see one in person!

I'd love to have one of these to pair with my MacBook Pro but
(1) it's WAY too expensive. I don't think my eyes are good enough to appreciate the difference between this and a Dell 24" 1920x1200 monitor. At least not considering the price difference.
(2) it wouldn't work with my April '08 MBP until they come out with a miniDisplayPort adapter- what's up with that?

Maybe if I win the lottery ... or make a mint writing some killer iPhone app (probably have a better chance with the lottery).

Amen. It was really stupid to introduce this great monitor with no hookups for people whose notebooks happen to be a few months old.

Isn't there a display adapter available for using this with normal DVI inputs?

I've seen it in person and it is stunning. But yeah, it really is way too expensive.

The only DVI adapter I've seen goes the wrong way
