Even when the i780 was on the list of devices that would have an upgrade, as far as I know, it's still not available. It's also not on your list. So I guess I'll have to make do with 6.0. :-)

Man, I hate getting petty and bitter about this, but please note the rather conspicuous absence of ANY HP (iPAQ) products from the list.

Talk about how the mighty have fallen.

This doesn't include the "unofficial" 6.1 upgrades I suppose...

I just upgraded my sister's Imate Smartflip to 6.1...it runs so much more smoothly now. Same with my Q9h (official AT&T ROM though).

Same here. Pathetic performance. And why does the crap voice messenger have this stupid Windows Update option in the settings. In the time I've had it, there's never been any kind of update to it.

No, unfortunately. There's no official Windows Mobile 6.1 upgrade for that device.

Correct. We don't link to unofficial ROMs for legal reasons.

I must say that I'm upset that
HP has not released 6.1 for the
Ipaq 211. Phones here, phones
there, what aboout us true pda
users! I don't even own a cell
phone,... When I really need to
use a phone, everyone says, use
mine its better than his/hers.
Guess hp, restructured the pda's
too.

I think I'm the only happy person in this thread. I didn't know that my Alltel HTC Touch had a WM 6.1 upgrade available. They've turned on the GPS and given me Opera. Thanks for letting me know!!! :D

I too am disappointed about the lack of a Samsung i780 upgrade, specially when it was announced to be getting an upgrade not too long ago!!

I upgraded my i-mate 6150 the other week, right when the update came out. It adds a task manger, the option to turn off 3G, and I think some performance enhancements.

I can't comment a lot on the performance enhancements. After I updated, I restored using the "ROM Update" mode of SPB Backup. I'm not posting this as a negagive against SPB Backup! it is an amazing product if you ask me and I'm blown away by it's features. Anyway, I'm sure this would have worked fine in some situations but it probably just depends what's fixed and replaced with the ROM update as to whether the restore wipes it out or not. Anyway, my device is working fine since then and all my installed apps work so I didn't need to re-install. It did seem to kill a few features thought that the upgrade should have given me. For instance, the option to disable 3G is there, which it wasn't, but it's grayed out.

Anyway, when I have time I plan to re-install the 6.1 update and then re-install all my applications. Then I'll restore just my email and contacts with SPB Backup - which I do strongly reccomend to anyone looking for backup software.

I noticed at least 4 different releases of 6.1 for the HTC Touch. Is Rogers likely to release one?

Difficult to determine. Unfortunately, Rogers has yet to release a single ROM upgrade or patch for the Touch, so the chances of a 6.1 upgrade are quite slim.

more important is which of those 6.1s have the mail fix built in?

I upgraded my Pantech Duo to an unofficial ROM a number of months back.

Theoretically, I should be able to install the offical ROM over the unofficial one, right? I mean, it's basically just re-flashing the ROM with a new OS, right?

I'm not even sure why I want to, but 'official' seems better than 'unofficial' in my book. Just afraid of hosing the phone if I'm wrong...

Correct - unless the installer detects an unofficial ROM and prevents installation, in which case, you may be able to flash using the official image copied to a microSD card.

Are you referring to the MDA Vario III? To my understanding, T-Mobile has not released an official upgrade for it, but you may be able to download and install the upgrade for the TyTN II (http://www.htc.com/europe/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=13&cat=2&dl_id=21) (do so at your own risk).

The upgrade is for Orange network users only. It is possible to upgrade other versions using the software officially provided - so long as you are willing and able to use a hex editor to change the software version in the .exe file to match the one on your i780. But you do so at your own risk.

I have upgraded my mobile (sucessfully, but it took a couple of attempts), but it remains one of the more disappointing 'phones that I have owned.
