That's my Samsung Jack, also known as the Blackjack II, and I purchased it through Rogers Wireless a few weeks back. There are a lot of things that I don't like about the Windows Mobile Device Center, but one of the things I've always thought was cool was that when you connected a device, it should show you a graphic appropriate to that device. When I connected my HTC Touch Diamond, I saw a little graphic of the HTC Touch Diamond. So why is it that my Blackjack II, when connected, shows me that generic phone image? You other Blackjack II owners, do you see the same thing? Or do you see a graphic for your Blackjack II? I have a strong hunch that this is something that Rogers Wireless simply screwed up on...

Same: AT&T BlackJack II, Windows Vista Enterprise, generic phone graphic. While it would add some polish to the UI, my feeling on that is "meh." But then I only sync directly with a PC once or twice per month, so my opinion may carry less weight. :-)

AFAIK it's something Samsung isn't paying attention. Same problem with the i900 Omnia, also the generic (Pocket PC) graphic only...

I get the same thing with my Samsung Blackjack I.

My T-Mobile Dash always had a matching graphic in WMDC (a nice touch!) until I upgraded from Vista Home Premium to Vista Ultimate; now, the Dash graphic is displayed until I actually connect the phone, then I get a generic landscape-oriented PMP graphic (?!). Weird.

The icon is actually a special .ico file under \Windows named sync.ico

If you don't have one defined, the generic icon in WMDC (as well as under My Computer) is displayed. You can choose to create a custom one yourself and add it regardless if there's defined in ROM. In some cases you may have to AppUnlock your handset to override one that's already existent in ROM.

I've uploaded the one that's present on my HP iPaq 910 at http://krhainos.tk/sync.ico

Great find krhainos. Now I have to go create a custom icon for my handset :D

Interesting...so maybe HTC is the only one who actually gets this right.

The graphic for the Diamond is AWESOME. :D

HTC may get it right, but the option is there for their customers (ATT) to screw it up. My Tilt comes up with a generic icon. There is a bit more to it than just replacing one icon in one place. Often requires replacing the icon file on the device, on the desktop in a hidden directory and re-establishing the partnership. There are a number of tutorials on the web if you serach for 'WMDC icon incorrect', or something like that. Doesn't always work BTW.
