Winning/earing Xbox Live Points?

I wasn't sure which forum to put this in. But I figured this one will do.

I always see references to redeeming Xbox Live points, but I never see any way to win them.

Can anyone tell me how I can win or earn Xbox live points? Are there contests out there? Is there a way to earn them by playing games?

Its not hard to do and just by completing a few easy surveys Ive already been sent loads of free points...

I guess I was looking for more along the lines of Microsoft promotionals, game achievements... etc.
