2 Million Zunes Sold Since November 2006 Launch - Wait, is That Good or Bad?

From November 2006 to July 2007 (Microsoft's fiscal year end), they sold about 1.2 million Zunes - and these are the Zune 30 models. So that means, essentially that from the launch of the second-gen players in November 2007 until now-ish, they've sold 800K units. 800K units in roughly five months. Wait a second, so that means roughly 160K units per month, on average. Extrapolate that out 12 months, assuming flat growth, and you've got roughly 1.9 million Zunes being sold between now and the end of April 2009. Isn't that...good? Have I mentioned I dislike the way statistics can be made to look positive or negative?<br /><br />Microsoft needs to get the product out into more than just one market - and, hey, there's only so much us 30 million Canadians can help. They need to get the Zune into Europe and Asia ASAP - after they add unicode support of course.

Isn't that...good? :confused: I'm not quite sure what you're trying to say. If in the first 7-month period they sold about 800k, and the same for the second period, isn't that flat? Or are you saying that the absolute 2 million sales is a good thing?

Have I mentioned I dislike the way statistics can be made to look positive or negative? That isn't the statistics' fault -- it's a matter of how they're applied. You can say that pretty much any datapoint, statistical or absolute, can be made to look positive or negative. ;) "Only 2 million units? That's nothing."

QFT. Absolutely. I've been unsure how exactly to respond but this is exactly how I feel.

Judging from the amount of people I see posting un-boxing videos on youtube. and the amount of new people signing up on zune forums I'd say that the numbers are going in the right direction compare to when I first got my z30 back in '06.

they could hit most of Western Europe with this device by just releasing it over there sans Marketplace....just like they did Canada :P

Then in upcoming updates they could add language support for German and Italian, probably without having to go Unicode....even though that would be the right thing to do.

EDIT: If they added support for Portugese they could hit Brazil and Portugal at the same time. I think this device would be a big hit in Brazil.
