Right now I'm testing a slightly bigger system of theirs (same speakers, just a few more of them), the Mod2, and words fail me: these speakers sound so incredibly good. Punchy, bright, powerful - just superb. The sub-woofer is tight and shockingly powerful for an 8" sub - hell, for any sub. I've been watching too many movies and enjoying the sound instead of writing my review! Here's a bit about the configuration that they're giving away to one lucky winner:

"The Best $999 Orb Audio Speaker System. The MOD1 PLUS speaker system is our solution for our customers on a tight $1,000 budget. It includes a 5.1 Mod1 system with Mod2 center channel upgrade, our BOSS Mod2 horizontal center speaker stand, 100 feet of speaker wire and a 12 foot subwoofer cable. It has great sound, an upgraded look and all the little things that you forget like speaker wire and a subwoofer cable. You can also choose to configure it as 3 Mod2 speakers if you do not plan on having rear speakers or if you already have them. There are no tricks here...while other systems are $999 BEFORE you add wire, cables and stands, this system is $999 INCLUDING all of that. If you don't need the add-ons, we suggest that you consider our People's Choice Home Theater Speaker System, which upgrades your front left and right speakers to Mod2 for about the same price. If you'd like the add-ons AND the upgraded front speakers (in a medium or large room or if you prefer louder output) that option is available as well. Either way, the MOD1 PLUS system is completely customizable to include 5, 6 or 7 speakers and you may also add any additional audio and video cables you might require for other components, to ensure you don't have to do any last minute shopping when your system arrives."

Here's how to enter: just post a message as a reply telling me about your home theatre setup - whether that's a 14" TV and no surround speakers, or a 72" plasma with an in-wall speaker system. Tell me how the Orb Audio speakers would improve your movie watching enjoyment. There's one post per person allowed, and one winners will be randomly chosen. The contest will stay open for entries until April 7th, 2008. Because of the physical size and weight of this prize, only people in the USA and Canada may enter this contest.

Special thanks to Orb Audio for their donation of this kick-ass speaker system!

Pioneer Elite Kuro 50"
Denon 3808CI
both 3 mos old.

Current speakers are 8 year old Paradigm Monitors, nice but a bit big in this house - big tower fronts with large bookshelf atoms on the back and a 12", might as well be a table, woofer.

These are a great size, and fit the decor much better.

GIMMIE........please.;)

These sound amazing.

Currently I have a cheap 42" Sanyo plasma from Costco for my main TV. My receiver is an older Harman Kardon AVR235 (one of the lower end ones, no HDMI, etc..) that I bought used from a co-worker. My speakers are Bose AM10 speakers (5.1) with stands that I also bought used from the same co-worker. My DVD player is an el-cheapo brand from WalMart (~$40), and the newer HD-PVR that Shaw currently sells (best bit of the bunch!).

The Bose speakers sure ain't what they're cracked up to be and due to their cabling bundle, it's impossible to route the cables through the living room and try to hide the cables at all, which sucks. The bass is ok out of the subwoofer, but definitely lacklustre. Not to mention I'd rather have some nondescript looking speakers than the silver bose ones that are on stands. I like black; it hides better. =)

If I won, it might give me the gumption to sell my receiver/speakers and go buy a new receiver (needed very badly!) and new dvd player. TV will have to come later. These speakers would most certainly be an improvement over the Bose ones I have as I have never been all that hung up on Bose and their supposed technology. I'm sorry, but such a tiny magnet driving such a small speaker in such a small enclosure can't possibly put out huge sound, it's just not that possible. They sound ok, but my home theatre could certainly sound a lot better, and these would certainly help! =)

I currently have a Samsung 42" HD DLP with a 10year old Yamaha receiver add some kenwood 5.1 surround speakers.

I'm sure this would be an improvement to my current setup.

I currently have an old cambridge soundworks L, C, R speakers and some Radio Shack satellites for rear channels. Old Mitsubishi Sub (was thrown in with my old Mitsubishi CRT rear projection TV). Would luv me some orbs to upgrade my sound system!

I have a 55" Mitsubishi HDTV projection TV with a Sony receiver feeding my Bose Acoustimass 5 speakers. The setup is ok...but looking to upgrade everything. These speakers would be a very good start.

Yah, so I have a TV (Sony 42" Hi-Def LCD Projection), a dinky Sony DVD player, a cableco HD DVR, and, umm, nothing else. My wife doesn't allow large speakers protruding from anywhere within our living room. But these small speakers would likely be acceptable and from what I've read about them would make me quite the happy camper in terms of sound quality. I'd still have to purchase a decent, unobtrusive receiver (any ideas), but this would be a very welcome addition to my sad excuse for a home theater.

Thanks!

My current Home Theater set up includes a 30" TV (I need to join the 21st century and purchase a flat screen), which is connected to my Media Center PC. I record all my TV programs through my Vista Media Center PC and watch the shows and my DVD collection through the PC onto my TV. My current sound system is a surround sound system from Creative which is pushing at least 5 years now. I looked at the Orb system, and it is FAR better than what I currently have. The speakers I currently have were pretty cheap, so the Orb system would definitely improve the sound quality of the movies I watch. Plus they are so much prettier, which is a definitely good selling point for the wife.

I have a RCA 25" 4x3 TV hooked up to a JVC bookshelf stereo system.

Currently we have a 50" Vizio Plasma TV with no home theater speakers hooked up to it. Along with the purchase of a mid-range AV Receiver, these speakers would become THE external audio source for the living room setup.

I've got a 27" TV hooked up to a Windows XP Media Center 2005 system. All my audio & pictures are streamed from my Windows Home Server, and I'm currently working to rip my DVD collection to digital so that can be integrated as well. Media Center PC has a pair of speakers w/ a sub hooked up to it.

Well, my home theater currently consists of a Sony Wega 24" CRT and a Kenwood Home Theater in a Box. If I got this system it would both improve the sound in the TV/Theater room as well as in the music room/dining room upstairs. It would also improve marital harmony, as moving the kenwood speakers upstairs would free up the space currently occupied by the yard sale 601 Series II's currently in use up there.

JVC 42" LCD
Refub Onkyo HT

I would loved to get this one setup as sometimes the refurb Onkyo is not getting me the desired effect. I would also upgrade my reciever with HDMI (Audio and Video processing) so that I just do not have all the wires back in the corner :)

Thank You guys for all these great contests....

Oh, man! This would be perfect for my living room where I've just installed a 42# Sharp LCD HDTV in an entertainment center. But I have no speakers other than those in the TV. The Orbs would fit nicely in my entertainment console.

We have a 26 x40 master bedroom for which we just got a new 36 inch HDTV. Our problem is the wheezingly underpowered bookshelf soundsys that is a college relic. Great pix, but without sound, it lacks-bigtime.

The Orb Mod1 would change that totally. We have the perfect room arrangement for the Orb 5.1 sound system w/swoofer. The sound quality would be as fine as the pix with the Orb!;)

BTW-Looked at the specs for both this and Mod2. When words fail you, it has to be good!

new 42" 1080p plasma TV, a Sony Dolby Digital/DTS receiver, 2 decent front speakers, and really wimpy center channel, rear speakers, and subwoofer. I just ordered an HP laptop with Blu-Ray/Media Center to drive the system. The speakers are the weakest link in the system, and these Orbs would be perfect...

My home theater is a 17inch CRT with an Xbox 360 hooked up to it. Yeah.

My speakers are some cheap $30 things from Fred Meyers, 2 satellites and a sub. For 30 bucks, they actually sound great!

I have been looking at Orb Audio for a while and probably will purchase soon if I don't win. I have an old set of JBL home theater speakers that sound decent but not great, especially with music (lacks midbass). I haven't set those speakers up since I moved to my new house almost two years ago but it is also because I have twin 4 year-olds. Let's just say high fidelity movies haven't been a common viewing item. But cartoons do look good on our Visio 50" plasma. Anyway, one of my goals is to setup the home theater system by the summer.

Hi, I am totally new to the forum as well as home theatre. My current system ( if you can call it a system) is ...27" CRT tv - 10 yrs old and a Sony mini stereo system ( 2 speakers)- How is THAT for old school? :)

You can see why I am new to this and why I am in dire need of the Mod speaker system.

I am currently building a home theatre in my basment--walls torn out and new dry wall. I will be getting a 50" plasma and would love to have the Orbs!!

Even If I dont win (ya right...) I think I will try out the orbs speaker system when I have enough cash. From what I have heard they are really good speakers and they look awesome also. I think they would be perfect for my 'NEW venture into home theatre.

My wife is pushing for the new system as well, so I figure --time to upgrade.

Cheers from a Home Theatre Wannabe/soontobe-hopefully http://forums.thoughtsmedia.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

I just have a normal Samsung 32" TV. No speakers or anything special. Just a DVD player and a Wii.

First, this would be awesome since I have no home sound system, and it would be great for watching movies at home and video game sound. Imagine playing guitar hero with this sound system, it would just blow me away!!!

I would use it with our brand new 52" in. Sony XBR 5 LCD. Right now we're just using the speakers on the TV. They're not horrible, but they don't enhance the movie-watching experience either. We could definitely use these puppies!

In my home we have a tv room setup for our kids. We got them the Wii for Christmas and I invested in a 32" Flat screen tv, a new Sony receiver, and a Samsung upconverting DVD/VCR player. The only thing I couldn't afford to do right now was a speaker set. We are using a pair of 9" Advents I've had since my college days (and that was a --long-- time ago).

These speakers would just finish the room perfectly!

These contests have been great at making us techies dream about this stuff!!!

Would use the Orbs for our living room set-up: 36" CRT, older "RCA" 5.1 receiver (really an Optimus "Pro" series), Sanyo dual DVD/VHS, and U-Verse STB.
Current speakers are a set of Cambridge SW Home Theater "Cubes," which were really more at home in a bedroom then they are trying to fill a (relatively...) large space (especially the center channel: One Small Cube really strains at it's job!).

Orbs would provide a nice (!) upgrade in overall sound, without having to fill the room with large boxy speakers - which won't fly with my dear wife anyway.

Our previous TV was horrible. The picture was paltry, sound was inaudible, and it was too small. Last Memorial Day, my wife and I took advantage of sale prices and bought a 42" LCD full 1080p flatscreen. While the audio was now intelligible, it was still weak. I have since acquired a home theatre receiver, but I lack the speakers to power it. Building a home theater piece-by-piece really pegs the Patience-o-meter. Once I start building it, I get antsy for that next piece. So here I am, ants and all, looking for the right set of speakers. And what do I find? A speaker giveaway. Nice!

Other additions to our setup include SNES, PSOne, N64, XBox (original), Wii, and a Toshiba HD-DVD player.

Thanks for the contest!

Oh man, Jason, you are running some serious informal surveys with these contests. LOL

My set up is as follows:
NO TV, yes that's right. It broke two years ago.
iMac 24 inch is our media device, with a WD 1 TB drive to hold our ripped media, iTunes library, and the downloaded stuff from networks that we subscribe to on Shaw cable.

I've often wondered if Shaw can tell we never turn our cable on, or our TV on. In my mind, I feel like I need to be paying somehow for access to this programming my wife downloads from a torrents site.

We have plans to purchase a Panasonic plasma, tv, and get HD programming, but the question is timing. I am sick of my beloved iMac being the family tv, but too busy with work and family stuff to have enough time to make a change happen.

So, status quo continues.

My system is an old Sony rear projection (52") with an Onkyo HTIB. My current seakers are "eh" and HUGE. Not only will these speakers give much better sound, they will look 1000x better in my livingroom.

It's definitely not the best system, but my favorite of all time was the 16" color tv with original NES I had in my room when I was 14. That definitely could have used the ORB's since it only had a single 1.5" speaker under the dial. My current setup could also use the orbs JVC 56" D-ILA as well. I spent my full budget on the TV and Blu-Ray player and am using 8 year old bookshelfs to listen to movies.

for a home stereo -- I have the obligitory chunks

Sony Reciever (DB930??)
300 & 400 CD changer.
Go-Video combined DVD/VHS (VHS side is dead so will be tossing it soon)
TIVO series 2
XBOX 360

VISO 37" LCD

The CD changes and Sony Reciever connect to the main computer in the room via slink - The computer is running cdj and controls the play lists, cross fades... on the CD changer (did this before the advent of cheep disks and squeeze boxes..).

Speakers are 4 Niles 650's with an advent subwoofer & center channel.

Not what I would call high end but works for me...

I just bought a Samsung 46" LCD. I also had to buy a new entertainment center, because the new TV wouldn't fit in the old one. Now the old speakers I have for my Home Theatre don't fit well with the new entertainment center. The Orb speakers would look and work great with the new setup I have. I'd be able to replace the "large" speakers I have now.

I currently have a 13 year old pioneer receiver with 5.1 surround sound and a 25 inch panasonic TV. I only have the front speakers setup at the moment since we moved into our house 2 years ago. We have a finished basement that where we will setup our new home theatre. I have even run the cable wiring and taped off the location for the 47inch LCD that I hope to buy soon. I want a whole new setup but decided I would get the TV first then wait a year or so before upgrading speakers and such because I had been considering the virtual surround speakers rather than running wiring and such but I can't make up my mind about this....This would help me make up my mind. Also we are on a new financial plan that includes not using credit to buy things. We are close to paying off all debt within next year or so and will only have a house payment... Unless the appliances keep dying in our house (AC/Heat last November, Hot water heater January, Washing machine two days ago) Thanks J...

My current system is a Samsung 50" 720p Plasma wall-mounted with Sony 5.1 audio, wall-mounted Polk Audio speakers. It's nice and all, but a little outdated. We're building a new house and planning our new home theatre.

The Orb audio system would be a great system for a new home theatre (will be a projector system) - my Sony receiver is whacky and hard to get digital surround to work properly on. I need an upgrade.

I have a Onkyo HT-S780 stereo system with an Olevia 37" LT37HVS. Off of that I have a PS3 and HD DVR. I always enjoyed my receiver but the factory speakers that came with it have always left a lot to desire in sound and their pretty big and bulky on top of that. These speakers would be a perfect replacement and would really improve the 7.1 surround experience with movies and gaming. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Right now I'm waiting for my 50" rear projection TV (old school non-HD) to be fixed, and we have a table with a 27" sitting right in front of it. For the most part, we just use our cheap TV speakers. It leaves a lot to be desired, like a sweet speaker setup!

But the real kicker - my speakers are from a circa 1995 Aiwa shelf system! I think having 5 friends placed around the room making noise sound better than these speakers. Having a setup like the Orbs would revolutionize the way I watch my obsolete HD-DVDs ;-)

I have been slowly working on finishing my basement for the last 10 years. I am at the point where I can install a surround sound system. I have purchased nothing up to this point. I have a 27"RCA which I hope to move into the bedroom once I find an affordable LCD. My sound is through a 7 year old RCA surround sound amp that the in-laws gave me because the fans are to loud. I told them to keep the speakers because I would look for some that are a little better, so right now I am using two junk speakers until I find some.

I think these fall under the category of a little better.

I have a
Sony 29" CRT Television (Its small but BRILLIANT picture)
A phillip DVD player with 5.1 out and divx support.
Regular stereo out through TV (which I am looking to upgrade)
Needless to say the ORB setup will infinitely improve my audio immersion experience compared to the stereo speakers on the TV while watching movies.

RNG, pick me...

Currently only have a 42" Sony CRT TV. I have been waiting to upgrade to a flat panel, surround sound, etc. These would be a nice start to getting the upgrade going.

Right now, we have our 32 inch LCD hooked up to computer speakers with a sub. I think these speakers would make it so much better by having surround sound again.

My home theater consists of a 27" Sony flat-glass tube TV with Onkyo HTiB and 6-disc DVD player. Unfortunately, the surround speakers aren't hooked up right now, primarily because they're so huge. This Orb setup looks like it would make it easier to get all the speakers set up, which might motivate me to get a better TV.

We currently have a 46" Samsung LN-T4661F 1080p LCD, supported by a completely outdated 10 speaker Bose Home Theater system (so old I don't remember which model, but it doesn't even support Dolby Digital 5.1... only Dolby Pro Logic!)

Attached to it is an Xbox 360 Elite and a Toshiba HD-A20 HD DVD player I just got for dirt cheap. It's definitely helping to satisfy my HD craving until Blu-ray matures and becomes more practical.

Currently a Toshiba 57" HD Rear Projection. But I will soon be replacing it with a wall mounted LCD or Plasma. I actually removed the speakers and reciever that I had from the room as it just takes up too much space along with the rptv which takes up too much space on it's own. But with these they are small and compact and will look great right next to the new tv I will soon be getting and I can finally resume have a nice surround sound experience that I miss so much.

We have a 36" Sony Wega. We were getting ready to mount our big surround speakers to the wall, these would be much easier to mount! They would look really good too. We can't wait to have surround sound again. Thanks for the chance.

We have an old Cambridge Soundworks system with DVD player and ... get this ... a 16 year old 27" TV! But as we moved into our new house my wife and I decided to splurge and got a nice 52" LCD TV ... it is amazing, but we really need a new home theater system to pair up with it!

I have a mediocre 37" LCD TV with a Media PC hooked up to it.

I have a great high-end Pioneer TV & home theater system, but an using old stereo speakers because I haven't been able to afford a surround sound set. The Orbs would be great addition to the system.

I have an old Sony 45" analog rear projection TV hooked up to a nice Pioneer amp with more inputs than I know what to do with, a Samsung DVD/VHS player, and a Pioneer LaserDisc player (you didn't know we still existed, did you).

I have a six speaker setup (two fronts, two rears, center, and sub) but they are not matched and the fronts are converted stereo speakers. Big converted stereo speakers. Four foot tall, one foot wide, one foot deep converted stereo speakers. I could use something smaller to go with the bigger TV I'm looking for.

I am not sure what I have under all those wires. I do know that a better sound system would inspire me to actually fix the spaghetti tangle.

I am not sure exactly what I have under the wires but a sound system like this would inspire me to find out. ;)

(Blush) 25" TV with low end 5.1 surround. ORB anything would improve my current setup!

For me right, the "home theater" is just a dorm room. I'm set up with an HDTV antenna and tuner hooked up to my laptop (which is connected to a 24" Dell LCD), but as far as sound goes, I usually just plug in a pair of headphones. When other people want to listen, it's just the built-in sound on my laptop.

Needless to say, a setup like this would be an improvement by leaps and bounds. (True, I'd probably need an external soundcard to take full advantage of the system on my laptop, but my desktop media center PC at home should be able to make use of the whole thing.)

I'm still in the last century: 29" Sony Trinitron, Marantz receiver and Energy Take5 surround speakers. We've moved into a new place and I haven't setup (read: bought) the new living room system yet. The old system is in the kids playroom. This will definitely start me in the right direction.

I have a 19" LCDTV, and would love something like this to turn it into a real home theatre system (of course, I would then need to upgrade that TV!)
Thanks, Jason, for all these contests- you've come a long way since the debut of PPCthoughts....
