Everyone's Interested In Firefox Mobile

The more competition in this field the better, and the sooner Firefox Mobile gets going the happier I'll be.

I hope it gets better than the current minimo though. I have not been that impressed, and opera mini is my main browser on my Kaiser.

Minimo is slow, takes a really long time to start up and has an odd user interface.

I haven't been especially excited about any browser on my 8525. I'm (figuratively) holding my breath for this one.

Interesting note in the Skyfire blog:

Over the past week or so, I have been asked what is the underlying rendering technology in Skyfire? We have built the solution on top of the Mozilla platform and the Firefox application. We have a lot of technology around it that lets us move the complexity to the cloud. With a simple mission of “PC web experience”, the choice was easy. Firefox has great compliance to standards and to content. My wife uses Firefox on her Mac because many Indian web portals wouldn’t work well on Safari. Finally, the vibrant developer community made that decision very easy and simple for us. The next question tends to be “Is Skyfire competing with mobile Firefox”? I had lunch with Jay Sullivan yesterday and we both don’t think so. From my perspective, it extends the great work of the Mozilla community to a new and fast growing platform and supports the Mozilla mission of free and open web. Jay tends to agree with me on that (amongst a lot of other things).

(Has anyone started using the Skyfire beta yet? The blog indicates that invitations are going out to people who signed up, albeit at a measured pace. I haven't received mine, yet.)

I like Opera &amp; they are coming out with an update later this year I believe. I just hope Mozilla mobile will be a free app.

Yes, it'll be free, just like Firefox. And the Opera update is just around the corner.
