The new products will differentiate from the current Touch-series lineup, focusing on models supporting the 3G standard initially and then followed by EDGE-compliant models for emerging markets, Cheng indicated."

So the proliferation of products will continue - as if I don't find HTC's model line-up confusing enough already! What's really interesting though is the throwaway line at the bottom:

"In other news, the company's new plant in Pudong, Shanghai is scheduled for completion in September-October 2008, with the plant's production capacity to ramp up gradually to one million units a month, Cheng revealed."

That's on top of the nearly 1 million units HTC is already shipping monthly, which means (*counts fingers*) by 2009, HTC will have doubled production capacity. Three years ago, when smartphones were only for the geek fringe, can any of you have imagined that kind of volume? And that it would represent only a fraction of the smartphone market? Wow.
