exactly what it says above. last night my god father gave me his h5450, he never figured it out so he thought that since im in college and looking for a "real" job that i would get the most use out of it.

so my question is, how do i get this thing to go online. i go into network adapters and i selsct the ipaq wlan then tell it to use server assigned ip address. but then when i go into the connections screen, i get the three connection options, and cant find the wlan anywhere.

i feel that im actually doin more harm then good, lol. but i am somewhat computer illiterate, and need help. im prob gonna use it mostly at school so i dont have to carry around my laptop with me, so i need to be able to use it at different places.

can anyone help me :? :?

It's been a while since I had an ipaq 5450 but you will need to turn the wlan "on". If you don't have the manual, you can download the quickstart version here (http://bizsupport.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/lpia8010/lpia8010.pdf) which walks you through using the wifi. Find a full list of downloadable PDF's here (http://tinyurl.com/yo7s8v).

k, i tried that to the letter. i even did a hard reset, twice, and got no where.

it says that to know that im connected there is a flashing amber light that is suppose to be steady green. i dont get the steady green light just the flashing one. so i thought that i might not be close enough, so i went to the router, and still no luck.

when i turned on the wlan (after the hard reset), it asked me how i wanted it to work, i could either have it so it automatically found the ip address (which is the one i picked) or type in the ip address ( i tried using the same ip as my laptop from my linksys) i wanted it to use and ssid and all that other good stuff. and that still didnt work, so i went back to having it do it automatically.

then i went to setup some profiles, and it doesnt say anything about wlan under the drop down menus, they all ask me for phone numbers to dial when i want it to connect to the net. im so lost

Sorry I can't help much...it's been too long. I did some searching and ran across this page: Wi-Fi on the HP iPAQ 5450 (http://www.foxpop.co.uk/ppc/page_07.htm). Hopefully it will steer you in the right direction. One more possibility (http://www.ppcsg.com/index.php?showtopic=42518). Also, check your encryption, if you have it. Not sure if it supports WPA: see this (http://www.pocketpcmag.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=21987).
