Max size of SD and CF for 4700?

What is the maximum size of SD and CF cards the 4700 supports?

Does it change with upgrades of the OS or ROM?

I'm still using the original version, with 1.00 rom.

SD size officially supported is 2GB, though some/most 4GB cards will work as long as they're not SDHC. SDHC cards will not work to my knowledge. For CF, the limitation is the file system used (FAT/FAT16), which should give you a theoretical maximum of 32GB, but more should be possible.

I have read in several places that anything over 2gb is the high capacity. I did purchase a 4 gb hc sd card earlier, and the IPaq did not recognize the card was there at all. It was as if there wasn't any card in the expansion slot.

I think you are limited to 2gb for the sd card.

I'd have to disagree with that last comment. I've got a Transcend 4GB SD card in my hx4700 right now and it works just fine. Non-HC SD cards are very hard to find in capacities over 2GB though.

On my 4700 I use a 4gb SD card Adata 150x but not SDHC that is not supported, I use also some 2gb SD card kingston, and sandisk ultra2 with no problems.
For the CF card I use a 4GB samsung CF, I tried some brand also with no problem, but I experienced no compability with CF microdrive that is not recognized.

I'm thinking to buy a bigger CF card so I could back up the photos on my nikon D80 during a travel to avoid data loss or to have a biggest capacity, please inform about supported capacity.

I'm currently using a Transcend 8GB 120x CF card in my hx4700. I believe the CF size is limited only by the file system though. I've been tempted to pick up a 16GB CF, but the price has been holding me back.

BTW, the Kingston 4GB CF card also works perfectly.

There have been some efforts to get an SDHC driver for the hx4700, but they are, as yet unsuccessful.

Whoever said that is wrong, and Russ is absolutely right - SDHC is a specification adopted by the SD card association, not a description of size. There are SDHC 4GB cards, and 4GB non-SDHC cards.
