The GSM world phone can of course do the 3G thing in the US and Europe, so it's ideal the jet set type willing to deal with the Treo bulk, but other than the unlock it's the same old Treo, so we're sure you've already decided whether this one's right for you. The phone is available at Palm's online and retail stores."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/martin-20071206_palm_750.jpg" /><br /><br />If you've wanted a <a href="http://www.palm.com/us/products/smartphones/treo750/">Palm Treo 750</a> without being tied to a contract, it's finally here. And, you won't have to wait for a WM6 upgrade as it's pre-installed. Wwithout being subsidized by a monthly fee, however, you'll need to pony up $549 US to take it home. Anyone ready to whip out your plastic?

Sounds good, but lets discuss some reality here. When was the last time you went down to the T-Mobile/ATT store? Have you bought a SIM to put in a phone you already have? Guess what? They hand you the same contract paperwork as if you are getting a phone subsidized, with the same termination liability. ATT definately does, I bet T-Mobile does too. Can you get out of it and just get a month to month with no contract? Maybe, give it a shot. I can tell you neither Carrier's Pay-As-You-Go plans have any provision for data, so those are pretty much out.

Point is, better check if you can fill this with a SIM with no contract before you give up the nice subsidy. You might be locked into a contract anyway.

BTW, don't trust the pimply faced kid behind the counter to know his job when you ask.
