The American CDMA carrier is set to receive one of the most talked about Windows Mobile devices of the year. Revealed during Sprint’s annual day-long technology summit, the drop hasn’t been made official yet, but it was revealed to a number of employees, execs, and other attendees. The naming convention is a bit weird, as HTC’s technical designation for the CDMA version of the Touch is the HTC Vogue. That said, Sprint has decided to re-brand the Vogue as the Sprint Touch. Full circle, we suppose."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/125406.jpg" /><br /><br />Not exactly surprising news, but it's good to see HTC leveraging the design of the Touch into as many carrier-compatible versions as they can. They've done a bit more than that though, introducing a 400 mhz processor over the chug-tastic 200 mhz CPU in the GSM version of the Touch. EV-DO connectivity upgradeable to Rev. A gives some blazing speed, and a comment I read in the thread stated that the Touch will have a larger on-screen keyboard (looks like someone listened to customer feedback). If you're a Sprint customer, this looks like a heck of a phone - as long as you don't need a physical keyboard.

The good new is that they upgraded the processor; 200mhz was just pathetic.
The bad new is that the new processor is, at least for now, only on the CDMA version. US, Japan and other few Countries use CDMA, the rest of the World use GSM.
Well, at least the Kaiser should be available soon.

Hmm...so the CDMA-version of the HTC TyTN (HTC Titan) gets a dual-core 400MHz processor Qualcomm processor vs. the 400MHz Samsung processor along with 256mb ROM vs 128mb ROM and a much better form-factor. Now the CDMA-version of the Touch gets a 400MHz processor instead of the 200MHz OMAP processor. The Titan's improvements were much expected given its much later entry into the market but the Touch vs. Vogue? I hope this isn't a growing trend in which GSM devices are rushed to the market while the CDMA devices arrive later but are more refined. If that is the case, I'd rather HTC take their time on releases instead of creating a weaker GSM equivalent. Given the close introduction of the Touch vs. Vogue, why couldn't HTC have put a 400MHz into the Touch? This really baffles me... :?

As someone who just bought the Touch recently in Europe, that is frustrating. It's hardly crippled by its lack of ROM by any means -- it works perfectly well under ordinary circumstances. But the lack of RAM has made it a backwards adjustment from my previous device, and Acer n311.

Roll on, Polaris :)

Hmm, I believe it's because CDMA may need some harwired circuitry only found in the Qualcomm processor, which doesn't come in 200 Mhz flavor.

The 200 Mhz TI Omap processor found in the Touch and many HTC device is not able to offer UMTS neither, he lacks some circuitry and the processing power for UMTS apps like videocall.

BTW, i am using a P3300 with the same 200Mhz TI processor and I am perfectly happy with it. It's dont lag in everyday use, the GPS works well, VOIP works, the device is very stable and have a great autonomy.
