Pocket Informant fans like myself love it's hierarchical nature and have often been frustrated by not having a desktop planner that takes advantage of PI's strengths.

While searching for a comparable desktop PIM that might interface with PI I found myself talking with the developer of Achieve Planner at http://www.effexis.com/ (which also uses a hierarchical process). In addition to being hierarchical, it also assigns your tasks into projects, where you prioritize the projects in terms of importance and the tasks take on that priority. Very cool idea.

Admittedly I've not used it, but it looks exactly like what I've been looking for and it's very highly rated and I'll definitely buy it when the developer releases a PI-syncing version. The developer told me that they've been working on a PI interface since the beginning of the year and hope to have a beta out quite soon (no ETA yet). It will only sync the tasks in the first release (through MSoutlook for appointments and contacts), but tasks are where all the hierarchy is. That's where you define the important vs. the urgent, and prioritize your activities.

Anyway, if you're interested, check it out: http://www.effexis.com/
