This provides a spacious viewing area that's likely to appeal to those who find smaller screens difficult to read because of tiny text sizes. It's a shame that the display resolution is the standard 240 by 320 pixels, though: we think O2 could have pushed the boat out and gone for VGA resolution (480 by 640), which is rarely seen in Windows Mobile Pocket PCs, but which the 3.5in. could have handled."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/martin-20070625-o2_argon.jpg" /><br /><br />As electronic consumers, we've been trained to expect that each new release will be faster, smaller, and more "featured" than the last one. So, what do you do with a device that's just "not bad". As both <a href="http://reviews.zdnet.co.uk/hardware/handhelds/0,1000000736,39287549,00.htm">ZDNet</a> and <a href="http://blogs.msdn.com/jasonlan/archive/2007/06/19/o2-xda-argon-review.aspx">Jason Langridge</a> point out, sometimes this just may be the perfect device...for someone else. :) Actually, an "entry level" device really has come a long way. If Windows Mobile 5.0, tri-band GSM (no 3G or HSDPA), 256MB of ROM and 128MB of RAM, 400MHz processor, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and infrared sound like enough of a device for you, check out the O2 UK's <a href="http://businessshop.o2.co.uk/phone_detail.aspx?id=94&groupid=4">Xda Argon</a>, which is also known as the HTC Panda.

I have this device - in 2003 it was called HTC Himalaya. Same CPU speed, same RAM, same GSM/GPRS, same design/size, but with Windows Mobile 2003.
Actually there is another one - HTC Alpine, from 2004 - again everything the same, just the CPU was 520Mhz and it had WiFi built in. Oh and there was Windows Mobile 2003 SE installed.

So I guess this is actually HTC Alpine with WM5, exceptionall...
Especially considering you can get WM5 and I think WM6 for both Alpine and Himalaya on XDA-Developers...

Realy? I thought that Himalaya was the first to get WM6, considering people were running WM5 before any machine with official build hit the street.
As for Alpine, I really didn't check, I thought that if you can get WM5/WM6 for almost any HTC device that Alpine is there too...

But anyhow, that doesn't change the fact that the Panda in question is really underwelming considering what it's predecessors, especially Himalaya ment for phone editions and HTC...
