Details include:
• EV-DO REV A
• Windows Mobile 6
• 320x320 display
• 256MB flash and 128MB RAM
• 1.3-megapixel camera
• Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth radios
• expansion slot

If this is true, this should be a pretty cool device. I myself am a bit skeptical on some of the specs, especially the Wi-Fi radio. It seems most carriers are leaving that out expecting you to use their network. We'll have to wait and see. It could be out as early as Q4.

I'm embarrassed to admit it, but I actually am starting to think they're right about it :) With EVDO (and EVDO-A) speeds, I'm finding less and less need for wifi. Except for local stuff like file copying etc, I rarely use wifi anymore.

I know that for me, Wifi is a must for my PDA simply because I tend to find myself in buildings and locations for long periods of time where cell signal is almost non-existent. Thankfully these places usually have an open router or else i'd be lost!

320x320 res? I thought WinMo didn't support that resolution.

WM5 didn't, but WM6 does.

Personally, though, I think this report is probably bunk. 128 MB of RAM, 256 MB of ROM, GPS and WiFi? This is Palm Inc. we're talking about. Any one of those features would be a stretch for them.

I can live without the WiFi and GPS if I have to, but I need that memory.

320 x 320 resolution is going to be interesting. Apps that don't natively support that resolution, will need to be scaled. Icons and bitmaps will look ugly since every 3rd row and column of pixels will be doubled. This is weirder than apps scaled to VGA where every pixel was doubled (which just made things look blocky). Of course all the built-in Palm bits (like Today screen items) will be designed for 320x320 and look nice (as will the built-in Windows Mobile bits).

I personally think they'd be better off going for 480x480 as that would just make everything look that much better, but I understand that that means a lot more screen memory and slower painting (2.25 x more pixels than 320x320).

Actually, no. According to the official Windows Mobile blog, 320x320 WM devices will use the same resources as QVGA smartphones, which are almost the exact same DPI. So apps that run okay on existing devices should look fine.

That's exactly my first thought.

They probably heard and paid attention to all the complaints from all of us 700w users. Maybe. Just maybe. I can only hope.

Surely if the app can cope with landscape it'll be fine. 320x320 is just like qvga landscape but 80 pixles taller

so will it be 6 to 9 months until a GSM/UMTS model or are we seeing a Treo850 sooner ??? :D WiFi is also not a deal breaker for me either. I'd love the RAM though an maybe an miniSDHC slot instead of normal miniSD. unsure if 320 x 320 is great or not since some software/game developers don't even make their stuff 240 x 240 what more for 320 x 320 [which if this report is true will be the only unit with that res for the moment] will they spend time and effort porting or fixing an existing app for a single device.

I hope the 320x320 screen is true. I can't wait to dump my 700P but the 240x240 screen on the 700wx is worthless for my simple Excel sheets.

Technically your second statement is true, but pocketpcs dont run smartphone software and vice-versa, therefore it is safe to assume that Dyvim is correct

My 700w (verizon) just took a major dump - the send, windows start, OK, and cancel/power button are inoperable - after a couple of hours with verizon technical support we determined that the only course of action I have left is to swap out the phone - SUCK
I NEEEEEED a PDA/Phone - so I asked them if anything is coming up and they mentioned that they are doing some testing with a new phone that is running on windows mobile 6 - suppose to be lighter/thinner and still have a keyboard - I heard the name "Audiovox" mentioned but now looking at this perhaps they mean palm.
Any news from anyone else?
The verizon sales rep did mention that it will have the EVDO Rev A
Rumor is it may hit the streets in august...
Anyone else have any news?
