Let's start it off like this…the HTC Kaiser is the best darn Pocket PC I have ever used! It really has everything you have come to expect nowadays."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/hisham-20070525-HTCKaiser1(1).jpg" /><br /><br />Can you believe it? By my count, this is the third unboxing BGR have done in the past week, all'of'em just-released/yet-to-be-released devices. If the quote above sounds like hyperbole, it's at least partially justified. The Kaiser is arguably more than just a minor Hermes update, though current Hermes owners might not find an upgrade justified just yet. For the rest of us (with the possible exception of Athena owners), if you're on the market, don't miss this mighty mite - it looks like it's going to live up to its name.

The SIM card slot appears to be underneath the slide-out QWERTY keyboard...cool! I'm still a little unconvinced about the tilted keyboard slide though.

Wow very nice indeed. I mean compared to the iMate JasJam's 64MB RAM and 128MB ROM (which I think is still good), the Kaisers 128MB RAM and 256MB is fantastic!

Love the color too :)

Looks like a very nice device. I'll have to add it to my list of possible upgrade devices. :)

The rumor-mill has churned out "June 2007" as the expected release date.

My fingers are crossed!!

According to the article (http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2007/05/24/htc-kaiser-unboxing/) it won't be here until July 2007. (But that's better than the Shift, which won't arrive until October 2007).

Does anyone know which (or if any) US carriers will be selling/supporting this when it comes out?
I have an 8525 (which I love), and this Kaiser looks awesome. I'd love to get my hands on it and, depending on the price, I may disagree that it's not worth the upgrade...

May have found my next device. Absolutely love my Artemis but find that I'm missing the keyboard of my old Wizard as I am doing more texting these days. Have to weigh the extra size against the most likely better performance &amp; keyboard. Have a while to decide it seems...

i think pdadb.net tates release date to be august '07. Seeing as how trends go with devices to be released, i'd say end of september with an american carrier picking it up 2-3 months afterwards.

I was convinced that my next device would be bought from a US carrier as an "upgrade" because i'm sick of paying the international prices ($800+) but now that i think of it, i'm gonna stick to paying $800+!!! So i plan to pick this up on Ebay or some other site when its available.

Actually I have loox 720, a VGA device and currently I am using Jamin. With the screen size of 2.8", it is not really that important to have VGA. The smaller screen make color look clear and better. I think VGA may actually consumes more power and slow things down. I have Jamin now and quite happy with it even though it is not VGA.

maite - if you want vga go buy a bigger device... or at least one with a screen bigger than 2.8 inches.

VGA is the antithesis of professional portability -> lower battery life, increased CPU load, questionable utility on such a small screen size, and of course - cost.

I understand the desire for VGA out - but why not stick with an Axim for your presentation purposes?

VGA=4 times the # of transistors in the display. Since each transistor needs power, you see the problem.

And I absolutely agree about the performance impact and marginal utility of VGA on a phone.

Finally, there are people who speak my mind. That's exactly what I've been saying all along, that VGA on a 2.8" screen wouldn't be what people think it is. People see VGA on a 3.5" Axim screen and think it's going to be the same experience on a 2.8" screen...

Since this is a quad-band GSM phone it should work on any GSM carriers in the world (Cingular -- now AT&amp;T, T-Mobile, etc.).

Will any carrier adopt the device? Probably not. They may see features that they like in the device and have HTC build them on similar to it, but not this device exactly... at least that's been the track record so far.

The bad news is you don't get any carrier subsidies, the good news is you get a full-featured, unlocked device without the requirement of a new contract, so if your carrier does something horrid you can drop them, pop in a new SIM from a competing carrier, and viola!
