Among those specs were the addition of smaller screens, thinner enclosures, new input methods, and higher resolutions."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/hisham-20070522-headlines.jpg" /><br /><br />WinHEC was a great event for UMPC enthusiasts - a number of drool-inducing devices were showcased (including the HTC Shift, and the new Fujitsu convertible UMPC), and some ideas were floated about new specifications that Microsoft were looking at. A lot of the subsequent reporting got their info source from the presentation by Vikram Madan, who didn't <a href="http://blogs.msdn.com/vikrammadan/archive/2007/05/21/post-winhec-post.aspx">quite expect</a> the reaction he got, hence the pic above. I'll take the news and blog coverage as a sign that interest in the UMPC form-factor has grown and people are starting to 'get it' - not quite ready for the mainstream, but getting beyond geekdom. It also helps that the 2nd Gen devices are more compelling in design and usability, which prompted a few <i>mea culpa</i>'s from the press. I can't wait to see the Menlow devices next year!
