The story seems to have some sort of special iconic importance to a lot of people; they view it as a response to the iPhone, or as a milestone indicating trouble for Palm. Paul's a good guy, he had a nice reputation at Apple, but it bewilders me that the Times picked up on that particular hire. There has been a ton of change in Palm's marketing and product marketing organization in the last year, starting long before the iPhone."

Mike Mace pens an interesting article on his (cough) blog about this tidbit of news that many sites posted on, including ours. I was questioning the utility of posting on the subject, but I decided to do so, almost because everyone else was. :? Honestly, it's the rare single individual that can change a company; often, the media fixates on such small things and tries to make them out as a sea change, when in fact they're not. Perhaps it's a lesson for sites like ours to be pickier about the news we see. Fortunately, there is a lot of trivial news we pass up, and I think we'll probably continue to do so.
