I am considering a new file explorer while there is a 20% discount over at pocketgear. I am wondering which is better: Virtual Explorer, Resco Explorer 2005, or others. One feature I definitely know I want is the ability to modify file type associations.

Thank for any input!!

I have Resco Explorer, but only because I wanted the registry editor that came with it. I'm not thrilled with Resco's update policy (you pay for one year of updates and then you have to start over, even if the next update is a bug-fix). If I didn't need the editor, I'd go back to using Total Commander (http://www.ghisler.com/pocketpc.htm) which is an excellent file explorer and has the additional benefit of being free! :).

I haven't actually used Total Commander under WM5, although the website suggests that it works, and there is a public beta available which provides 'better support for Windows Mobile 5."

Another vote for Resco. Works great on all my devices.

If you don't mind the update policy, Resco's the way to go - and personally, I don't mind that much, since I've (yet) not needed a point release which wasnt' covered in the one-year timeline, and they just issued Photo Viewer 6 (a new version) about 4 months after I bought Photo Viewer 5... so it was a free update.

Total Commander works OKAY, but it could do better; I like the two-pane view in that for moving files, but Resco Explorer's more versatile for me... and even if you choose not to upgrade, I'd say it'll stay pretty functional for some time to come.

I really appreciate all the feedback. Looks like the consensus is Resco.

It would be cool to hear from anyone who uses Virtual Explorer as well. It looks like an interesting app.

Thanks again!!!

I am pretty happy with Resco myself but after reading this thread, I took a look at the Virtual Explorer website (http://www.antontomov.com/web/products/index.php?page=virtual_explorer).

It does look like it has a few additional features that appeal to me.

Maybe I will check out the demo over the next couple of days.
