Can I select which Outlook Contacts to sync?

Recently went from smartphone to pocket pc (T-mobile MDA). I used to be able to select (from Active Sync) only certain Contacts from my Outlook address book to sync with the device. Now "settings" in Active sync 4.2 is greyed on my PC and all 300 Contacts get pulled dwn to the MDA. You can imagine how long is takes to sync w/ IR! Suggestions? welcome.

Selective Sync is gone.
Once the original 300 contacts are done syncing wouldn't be long. Maybe USB or BT sync initially if available, then switch back to IrDA.
