On April 19th, 2000, Microsoft unveiled the first handheld Pocket PC. The Pocket PC was defined by Microsoft as 'a handheld device that enables users to store and retrieve e-mail, contacts, appointments, tasks, play multimedia files, games, exchange text messages with MSN Messenger, browse the Web, and more.'

At that time, such devices were very difficult to navigate though and generally frustrating to use. But with time they became more user friendly and more function rich. The Pocket PC has definitely come along way since those days, and for some people it has become an essential part of their life.

Our society is now more mobile than ever before, and the Internet is becoming ever more important. It is no surprise then, that Pocket PC's are becoming ever more common; as they allow you to access the Internet anywhere or anyplace. Mobility is what people want, and any device that assists people in their quest to be mobile, whilst staying in control of their work and daily life, will always be popular.

With the insurgence of Pocket PC's onto the market, an ever increasing amount of software is being created specifically for these devices. There is software that is designed exclusively for Pocket PC's, and there is software that has already proved to be popular on personal computers, and has been re-born to function on Pocket PC's.

One such program is FTP client. FTP client programs give you a fast and easy way to transfer files and directories between a computer and the FTP server. These programs mean that all you have to do to upload and downloading files between the Pocket PC and the webserver, is to drag and drop the files files between 2 windows. This enables you to upload a website in not time at all.

There are many FTP client software programs available for the desktop, but a much smaller amount for the Pocket PC, and smaller amount still which work both on the desktop and the Pocket PC. One of these rarities is the FTP client created by PortaWhiz.

PortaWhiz FTP client was designed in response to a distinct lack of convenient and easy to use FTP clients that could be used both at home and away. Mobility is the key word, and thats what this program gives you. Web designers in particular use this program often, and they very much appreciate the opportunity it gives them to upload their websites no matter where they are, and what they are doing. Whether on a business trip, on the train, or away from home on a holiday, the designer still has the power of being able to (for instance) do any work that unexpectedly comes up, or to complete a job that could not be finished behind the desk.

PortaWhiz FTP client is very easy to use, and has many features, such as full drag & drop (for desktop version) and copy & paste support; a passive/active transfer mode; a changing mode of files and directories (CHMOD); file finding on the FTP Server, and the ability to perform recursive downloads, uploads and deletes.
