<img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/wey-20061120-m700a.jpg" /><br /><br />If you were following <a href="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=52497">news</a> last week, you would have heard about rumours of an M700 from E-TEN. This time, it's official. Much like its pal, the X500, it features quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE connectivity, Bluetooth, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, GPS (SiRFstar III) with TMC, an FM radio, an integrated camera, and Windows Mobile 5.0, except the M700 has the added bonus of a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. No 3G support, it seems, but it still looks like a great all-in-one device. Interested in picking one up? Expect it to appear in authorized stores this month. A copy of the press release can be found after the break. <!><br /><br />"E-TEN Information Systems continues to create innovative Pocket PC Phones for mobile business users. Its latest release, the glofiish M700, is the first E-TEN Pocket PC Phone to feature a sliding QWERTY keyboard making it the optimum companion for messaging on the move. The product also supports a full compliment of communications standards and is currently the only device in this category to offer both Wi-FiŽ and GPS. <br /><br />Just a few weeks ago, E-TEN captured headlines with two landmark announcements; the launch of a new consumer brand for Pocket PC Phones and accessories, glofiish, and the release of one of the world's thinnest all-in-one communications devices, the glofiish X500. Today E-TEN brings to market the glofiish M700, a full-featured communications device optimized for rapid messaging and high mobile productivity.<br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/wey-20061120-m700b.jpg" /><br /><br />The glofiish M700 is set apart from traditional Pocket PC Phones, which rely on a touch screen and stylus for data input, by giving users the ability to enter contact details, write SMS text and email messages, or create and edit office documents while on the move more efficiently using a full-key QWERTY keyboard. Designed to achieve the right balance between ergonomics and size, the glofiish M700 incorporates a sliding mechanism to allow the keyboard to be covered when not in use, while EL backlit keys extend usability to almost any setting.<br /><br />Based on the latest version of Windows Mobile 5.0, the glofiish M700 supports Direct Push Technology to help business users work more effectively with email even while out of the office and includes mobile versions of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint for greater convenience and productivity.<br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/wey-20061120-m700c.jpg" /><br /><br />The glofiish M700 supports GSM, GPRS and high-speed EDGE for voice and data connectivity almost worldwide, while IEEE802.11b/g support allows users to connect to public and private Wi-FIŽ networks when in range of suitable hotspots. For travelers, the glofiish M700 also features GPS and TMC functions delivered via an embedded SiRF Star III chipset allowing the glofiish M700 to handle both daily business needs and weekend leisure.<br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/wey-20061120-m700d.jpg" /><br /><br />Preloaded on the glofiish M700 are a number of E-TEN in-house developed value added software utilities including; M-Desk, an easy to use Program launcher, several phone and messaging tools, camera and image editing software, FM tuner, backup utility and more. <br /><br />The Glofiish M700 is scheduled to launch in November 2006."

oooh.. this is nice. I think this could be a nice upgrade to my 8125. I just haven't had it all very long though.
Darn temptation. :devilboy:

Looks like it would be a nice replacement for my MDA. I wonder what the size difference is, wouldn't mind seeing a picture of them stacked and side-by-side.

So am I to understand that this device doesn't use a stylus?

Also why no 3G? Is there some unspoken technical impossibility about including a total connectivity package (3G + WiFi + GSM/GPRS/EDGE + Bluetooth + GPS + radio + et al.) with a fast processor and full VGA?

All that and multimedia too, truly all-in-one!

It doesn't have to be "the thinnest ever" to make me happy.

I can't be the only business user in America with whom price would be no object for a fully loaded device...

Is there a comparison between the Eten X500 to the Eten M700? What is the difference between the two units aside from the keyboard?

I have to say it looks like a design knockoff of several different devices. The face is like the Cingular 8125, the sides are like the HTC Magician, and the keyboard is like the HTC Hermes.

It's a Pocket PC, so a stylus is still included, but it's up to you if you want to use it. The QWERTY keyboard is designed to help you input data quickly and easily.

Also why no 3G? Is there some unspoken technical impossibility about including a total connectivity package (3G + WiFi + GSM/GPRS/EDGE + Bluetooth + GPS + radio + et al.) with a fast processor and full VGA?

Apart from battery life, no, there isn't much of a technical limitation.

I'll link you all to a full spec-by-spec comparison in a day or two. As for a picture comparison, check the front-page later today.

Here's the official specs list for the M700: http://www.etencorp.com/products/Communication/M700.php

As expected, both devices are practically identical, except the M700 is a tad larger due to the inclusion of a QWERTY keyboard.

Thanks for the link Darius, i really like ETEN devices but seeing the FLAME that is pretty nice too. I heard that ETEN will come out with a device that is VGA on a 2.8" screen. I like the sizes of the ETEN devices thus far, not too sure if I wanna use my Axim x50v as a phone, just a tad too big. Plus ETEN will include GPS on there VGA device.

I love seeing all these new innovative devices coming out.

I will be so tempted to upgrade but really don't have a good reason to cuz I am still loving my M600+.

Thanks again!

I have to say, I don't know how on earth I missed this thread/product announcement - but it was around Thanksgiving, so that must have been why.

At any rate, this product is EXACTLY what I've been waiting for!!! I'm on T-Mo, so for me, although 3G is cool and helps resale value, EDGE is all I'll be able to take advantage of for now, anyway. T-Mo, I've heard, will offer 3G on a slightly different band than what we know now; they'll be running on the 1700Mhz band or something close to that, instead of 1900 and 2100, so 3G in any phone today may be useless to those on T-Mo's networks.

Apart from all that, this phone has it ALL, with great looks, too. THIS is what I've been waiting for. I've been considering buying an HTC Tytn, but not anymore.

This Eten M700 is my next phone. No question about it.

It can be purchased here (which just happens to be the place that I first became aware of it today): SMG - Eten M700 Glofish (http://www.smart-mobile-gadgets.com/index.php)

True, it's a good all-'round phone to have if you are a heavy GPS user. I know that this is purely subjective, but I I think the M700 looks rather bland. I've posted some of my thoughts and pics of my M700 here:
