Hope somebody can help.

I got my ipaq wireless network enabled and set with an ip 192.168.0.55, my desktop 192.168.0.1. I can ping both ways. I also have VNC installed and can view from my PDA with a VNC viewer my desktop screen and operate it.

But...

I cannot access the Internet or view shared folders? I think Ive checked everything but no joy? Ive even disabled all security and firewall on my desktop but no change.

Any help please?

Have you enabled ICS on your desktop? That would help with the internet connection.

The bit about seeing shared folders - the WM file explorer doesn't have a network browser, you have to explicitly point it to the network share to see it (use the "Open" command, and type in the IP and shared folder name).

BTW, Welcome to PPCT

Thanks you for your welcome.

Still trying to get it working.

If I enable ICS on either connection it changes the IP addresses around a bit but still no joy?

My PPC = 192.168.0.55
My first PC wirelesss = 192.168.0.1
My first PC Lan (to router/modem) = 192.168.1.2 (gateway 192.168.1.1)
My modem = 192.168.1.1
My second PC = 192.168.0.5

Which connection on my desktop should have ICS enabled?

BUT I have another PC with a wireless network card 192.168.0.5 and this can access the internet when my PPC cannot all through my main pc with the modem? If this can when cannot my PPC?

It seems ICS does not like fixed IP addresses anywhere?

If I set all IP addresses to auto then enable ICS on the wire LAN to my modem, it assigns 192.168.0.1 to my wireless lan automatically.

When I start my PDA it gets the IP 169.254....... then after 10 seconds it changes to a 192.168 number and works.

Sometimes I need to keep pinging any local address for it to update the PDA's IP. Maybe the access point in the next house is effecting the PDA?

Is there a way to broadcast the IP to my PDA so it gets it right first time?

But its working 75% now. Thanks

You're welcome!

If you were using a router, you can use DHCP to farm out fixed IPs to specific MACs - that's the simplest way. I've no idea if this can be done through an ad-hoc connection (which in my experience btw, is problematical at best).
