What we already knew: it's a Pocket PC Phone Edition with a juicy 2.69" VGA display, 512MB of memory, and a DVB-H receiver. What we learned today: it'll ship with Windows Mobile 5.0 and AKU 3.0, and incorporate a mobile broadcast system developed by Penthera and Innoxius Technologies. You know, I'd really love to see one of these in action right now. ;)<br /><br />A copy of the press release can be found after the break. <!><br /><br />"<b>GIGABYTE Communications unveils GSmart i200, the first DVB-H Windows Mobile 5.0 AKU 3.0 TV Phone at 3GSM World Congress Asia 2006</b><br /><br />SINGAPORE – October 20, 2006- GIGABYTE Communications today unveils the GSmart i200, the first DVB-H Windows Mobile 5.0 AKU 3.0 VGA handheld device, at the 3GSM World Congress Asia 2006. HTC should really check out why Gigabyte's and Nokia's phones are so popular: because of multimedia (and for example phone call recording).

I don't think I'd swap my Wizard to any current HTC device right now because of HTC's reluctance to listen to users' request like the above two things.

This model, on the other hand, is REALLY promising and may well become my next PPC phone (I assume it'll be able to record calls as with the porevious Gigabyte model). I've long wanted a phone with a built-in DVB receiver but didn't want to go the Nokia way because of the different OS. Now, this device seems to be very appealing.

Cool - another reason to avoid using a mobile device to watch tv. That and the tiny screen. Hi res or no, tiny is tiny.

While on the topic of calls, it has a background noise generator, so you can simulate a typical working (*cough*) environment. It'll be interesting to see just how well it is implemented and what people use it for. ;)

Gigabyte's devices typically are Asia-only, though there have been cases where other resellers worldwide have picked up the device and slapped their own brand name on it, so there is hope.

Speaking of which, would you happen to know a 3rd party software that does background noise generation for the Pocket PC? I think I may need it... :)

Hmm, what can consumers do with a DVB-H receiver in the US?

Specific details on data support is still a question mark. Gigabyte's PDA phones tend not to support anything faster than EDGE, though this certainly doesn't mean that this model is in the same boat. We'll post more information as it comes in.
