Both of those are incredible...

I wish I had one tenth the creativity of this guy... He might not get as much attention as guys like Robin Williams and Jeff Foxworthy, but he has to be in the top 25 comedians of the last century...

And a seriously underrated and under-appreciated musician and vocalist. Hey, you try making an accordion sound like 80s pop synth! Or just listen to the technical purity, not to mention the sheer inspired nature, of something like "Jerry Springer."
And as one blogger wrote: "White and Nerdy" speaks to me (and probably most of the peeps here) like no song since Wheatus's "Teenage Dirtbag" has.
The guy has got humor, wit and skill out the woojah.

I spotted waaaay too many things I could relate to in the "White and Nerdy" clip.... including being able to quote "Monty Python and the Holy Grail"!!!

Thanks for pointing these out. Made my morning.

Weird Al IS incedibly talented, but there is no doubt he is weird. I do a lot of work for rock concerts, and have worked several of his shows over the years. Once before a show I found him laying on the concrete floor behind a dimmer rack with his feet up on a coil of cable......he had a very comfortable couch in his private dressing room, but somehow he found the floor and noise more comfortable....weird. ;)

To appreciate his talent you have to hear him do "We are the World" He does all the voices....at the same time. Incredible!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SnR6LZqEUeA is still my favorite Weird Al. Take a look at the last 20 seconds. I think that whole scene was run backwards and Al performed in it backwards so it would look like he was going forwards.

Wait, did Al actually lip-sync the words backwards? That'd be awesome. And I agree, it's his best ever. I do find The Pentiums, which came out a few years ago with his previous album, to be a great laugh nevertheless. Didn't realize you guys hadn't seen it before. ;)

"Pentiums" actually came out 2 albums ago, in 1999 on "Running with Scissors". His album in 2003, Poodle Hat, wasn't really big because of a lack of videos (although is Nelly & Eminem parodies on that album are pretty good, and "Why does this always happen to me" featuring Ben Folds on piano is simply awesome (it's an Al Original)). His latest album, Straight 'Outta Lynwood hit in late September and was supposed to include a parody of James Blunt's "You're Beautiful" named "You're Pitiful". Atlantic Records, James Blunt's label, axed the release of the parody on the album at the last minute, causing this album to be delayed from April to September. This is why Al writes "You Suck" on Atlantic Record's Wikipedia article in the White & Nerdy video! You Pitiful was (and I believe still is) offered as a free download on www.weirdal.com.

Yes, I know way too much about Weird Al (I own all of his albums), but hey - isn't it required reading for all geeks?

Best Al songs: "I'll be Mellow When I'm dead" (Great 80's references in there), "The night Santa went crazy", and so many more... ;)

Weird Al is brilliant!

My favorite Weird All song is Smells Like Nirvana (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b2qRZoUIEZg). I remember when I first heard it on the radio, I actually thought it was the Nirvana song until I started paying attention to the words.

I think they are best when familiar with the song being parodied.

Another great Weird Al Parody.

Anyone remember the fuss this caused?

According to Bargle Nawdle Zouss (http://www.barglenawdlezouss.com/)'s Info and Facts about "Weird Al" Yankovic (http://www.barglenawdlezouss.com/factual.htm):

In '96 came "Bad Hair Day", Al's 9th studio album. The album featured "Amish Paradise", a parody of Coolio's "Gangsta's Paradise". But, there was a little confusion about that one. Al got permission to do the song, but later found out that Coolio wasn't happy with it saying he hadn't given permission. Coolio never pressed charges, but Al did, however, send him a letter of apology and a check for a good sum of money. To this day, Coolio hasn't responed(sic), but has sincw(sic) cashed the check.

Comdex.....nice. :D

A friend of mine went to one of his concerts. He was notified that her parents had died by his wife a few hours or so before. He was late getting on stage but the guy still did the concert. Simply amazing. I wish I had gone. :?

I also love "I'll be Mellow when I'm Dead". His earlier stuff was great -- "Nature Trail to Hell in 3-D" is also a good one.

Okay, I'm going to ask a really dumb question that will forever brand me as a totally clueless person. How does one download videos from YouTube? I'd love to carry some of them around on my portable player, but don't see any obvious "download" button on the site.

Oh whew, now I feel better. It's just that I keep hearing/reading about people who "downloaded that video from YouTube" and I figured I was missing something.

Are there sites where videos can be downloaded -- preferably legally? :devilboy:

Well, they're not lying. There are browser plug-ins and small applications which do that, but I don't think it's entirely legal.

Music videos, in particular? Try the iTunes Store.

Ok, maybe google is onto something. I mean, I'd never even heard of YouTube before they spent $1.65 Billion last week.

Now, everywhere I turn, folks are telling me to go look at this or that video.

I like WAl, and have always thought he was extremely talented, but here is my favorite clip I've seen this week, nothing to do with tech, but plenty of talent, even when one of the great sax players ever is passed out cold!!

OH, that's just creepy... You'd think they'd nudge him awake, or something... why on Earth would you film a performance with what looks like a dead body in the orchestra?!?

Well, yes, sort of. You have to download the "Google Player" to watch the clips. So it's a proprietary format that won't work on my (somewhat stupid) portable video player (GeCube).

Good timing for this thread. Weird Al will be 47 years old on Monday. He and I were born on the same day. Every time I see him in concert I realize how little I've done with my life. :-)
