<div class='os_post_top_link'><a href='http://www.msmobilenews.com/page/1489/' target='_blank'>http://www.msmobilenews.com/page/1489/</a><br /><br /></div><i>"Windows Mobile 5 is the current OS of choice for Windows Mobile users however the next iteration, codenamed Crossbow, has shown its face, check out the full Pocket PC homescreen shown above! It has a glossy title bar and soft keys and will feature Vista-esque folder icons etc. Pieter Knook, a Microsoft Sr. VP, has commented that Microsoft plan to release an upgrade to their mobile platform yearly which is interesting and could mean a new OS with every yearly upgrade for pay monthly contracts. Knook has also commented that Crossbow will have strong links with Office 2007 and Exchange 12 as well as including the mobile version of Office Communicator, an Instant Messenger tool for enterprises."</i><br /><br /><img src=http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/westfall-wm5_crossbow_screenshot.png><br /><br />Crossbow is still a long ways off, but for now we can be content with seeing how the Today screen will change (slightly) in the next version of our OS of choice. I can't say it is anything breathtaking, but it's good to see something starting to leak out. It does have that blasted battery icon in the top bar - Please MS - tell us that we can disable that with a registry change!

They brought the darn clock down again. Jeez. What's wrong with these people?

wow. new icons. gradient title bars. oooh.

I know there's probably (hopefully) some much more exciting stuff under the hood that can't be discussed yet, but I'd gladly go back to the flat-looking 2000 interface if the broken stuff would just get fixed -- including ActiveSync.

Why do you want to get rid of that? I find it very useful.

Because it removes the damn clock!!!! AAArrrrggggg!!!

How true, oh wise one. How true. Surely a Sultan of your stature should be able to rub a vase or something and make it happen. ;)

Hopefully there's a way to customize the title bar. For me, the battery icon only needs to display when the device gets down to 50% or less, but the clock should be there all the time.

Only from the top bar in the Today View - and it is still visible immediately below when Today/Date Applet is loaded. In all other views you can set the Time to show using Settings/Clock/More/ and tick box - as surely you already know. I dont have a big problem with it either way, but I do agree with Perry that the battery is a useful icon.

Ok, that's a pretty good idea. I guess I'd rather see the clock than the battery icon most of the time, unless as you say, the battery strength drops below 50%.

That's exactly where I want it, griph. The battery icon is pretty useless anyway. There is very little detail.....do I have 85% or 65%, it is rather hard to tell. There are much better battery level apps around that can place the info in several different places, and leave the clock alone. :)

For all those wanting to change the battery/clock displays on their devices back to the old style, open a registry editor, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell, and modify the ShowTitleBarClock DWORD value from 0 to 1, and then soft-reset. Note that you need Windows Mobile 5.0's AKU 2.2 or higher for this to work.

I agree that the battery meter is pretty useless as it stands: why have only full, halfway, and empty? Why not indicate a percentage?

don't you people have the "more" tab in the Clocks and Alarms applet in system settings? My Wizard has had this before AKU2. :?:

Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? I posted this yesterday morning.

Bad design. It shouldn't move. We generally prefer to always look in the same place for specific information.

That option exists, but it doesn't rid post-AKU2 devices of the clock on the Today screen and the battery icon in the title bar. You still need the aforementioned registry hack for that.

I'm not quite sure what you're asking. What are you perceiving to be "wrong"?

I'm trying to figure out why another thread has been started on the same topic. I realize this happens from time to time. Did I post this in the wrong section?

:-)I dont want the clock on the today page. I dont use the date and time today item, so for me there would be no clock at all on the today screen. And as explained above the battery meter is rather terrible anyway. Fortunately I use wisbar.

I am quite underwhelmed by this screenshot. Nothing that can't be done with wisbar. I'm sure someone is already at work with a crossbow skin. I just want to know what is actually going to be fixed and added. Working alarms anyone?

This is a front-page news thread. The thread that you created was in the community discussion forum. If you think something is newsworthy, submit (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/submit.php) it as news, rather than posting it as a new thread. We'll evaluate it and post it as we see fit.

I use my Exec for everything I need [web/music/work/calls]... except as an alarm clock... for that I use a very old but reliable nokia 3100 :) It's loud as hell and doesn't miss my morning alarm ever. I do agree that the battery on top is useless or if they insist on putting one there make it more useful [i.e. have it have 4 bars 1 bar for each 25% of battery power] also can't there be a way to have both the battery and time to be up there at the same time? One of the main reasons I tried a hacked AKU3.2 ROM on my Exec was to get the battery out of the top bar and get date and time back on top.

Another pointless icon it appears they are adding is to show if a memory card is present in the device. I guess it's too hard to look at the slot to figure that out. I assume it will only work for an SD-compatible slot. Maybe they don't expect any dual or CF slots to be used next year.

I agree that MS should make fixing what's not working a higher priority than adding a bunch of pointless features. But I doubt that will happen. :(

That is the SIM indicator. PPC phones have always had that and it means the SIM is missing or has malfunctioned.
