Here's a cable that splits it into two: one for syncing and charging, and one for audio. Personally, I would prefer to see an ExtUSB to 2.5mm/3.5mm adapter. Sure, audio over Bluetooth is an option, but not everyone is geeky enough to take advantage of a feature like that. The fact that one can't use his/her standard wired headphones without the help of additional accessories makes ExtUSB one giant blunder.

Definitely need one of these except with a 3.5mm audio adapter... especially for the car. Bluetooth audio is a huge pain since everytime you want to use it you have to go into the Bluetooth Control panel, the devices tab, tap & hold on the A2DP device you want to use... then set it as Wireless Stereo. If you're also connected to a Bluetooth headset, then there's no confirmation that the Wireless Stereo setting was applied, so you have to play some music to test it. Then if you leave the range of the A2DP device, you gotta do all of that again. Compare that to plugging in a wire.
Jeesh!

Hi Darius,

I thought the EXTUSB was the connector on the Startrk. Do they use the same name for the 11 pin also?

To my understanding, they're one and the same. HTC only introduced the ExtUSB name with the launch of the P3300 et al, but the pin configuration remains unchanged.

I feel your pain. I've got a k-jam and an i-tech R35, I dont' have to go to the control panel every time (and never if I just go out of range) but 50% of the time if I take a call I have to ge do the Wireless Stereo and occasionally delete the device and re-pair. The hardware is sorted out so I figure it's just a software issue.

will this work for the Cingular 8125? and what about the HTC TyTN Stereo Headset?
Didn't know I could do that!

The 8125 has a standard 2.5mm headphone jack. I'm not sure how this cable would help you?

Hi - reopening this thread with a related question. I want to know if there is an adapter out there that offers a USB (not mini-USB) plug to work from?

I want to try hooking up a USB Wi-fi dongle to my new SMT5800 which comes without wi-fi, but I can't find a mini-USB wi-fi dongle.

I added on to this thread to make it clear I'm aware of the Y and 3-way splitters that have mini-USB or the HTC ExtUSB plug on the non-phone end.

I did some googling but it is hard to zero in on the right product with these keywords. Sigh.

I don't think that the device has host capability ( I couldn't find anything to verify that.)

Thanks, I hadn't thought of that - just assumed Win Mobile would have that capability but now I see . . .

Pretty frustrating not to be able to add Wifi to the phone I've just bought. I see there are miniSD wifi cards out there but no microSD cards nor does it seem possible to adapt a miniSD card to a microSD slot.

Dear ***,

Thank you for your inquiry.

I regret SDW-823 is not available at the moment, it might take another 2~3 months to enter the market.
I will get back to you once ready.

Best Regards,
***
THAT was Dead End #1.
(Wonder how much Verizon, etc. are paying them NOT to market this . . . )

2-3 months as a production delay isn't too bad. If you can't wait for that...BT?

Pretty frustrating not to be able to add Wifi to the phone I've just bought. You could set up BT internet sharing or if you're within 30 days of purchase...Use Verizon's test drive policy to switch to a 6800

Thanks - yes, I looked at the 6800 (and the Samsung) but don't really want those due to design issues. Even without wifi I still prefer the 5800.

Can I set up BT sharing from a public connection? Or are you thinking about from my notebook connection? All I really want is the capability to do brief internet searches for things like phone numbers, etc. from WiFi hotspots. Once a week or so. That's why I'm not buying a data plan.

(I really only wanted the smartphone so that I'd have high-quality sync with Outlook calendar and address book, and also easy access to word and pdf documents for things like meeting directions, schedules, agendas, etc. - right now I use my notebook computer for this stuff and it is pretty tedious.)

I really doubt the 2-3 month delay can be relied upon. Note that the press release about the microSD wifi card went out in October 2006 (I think). I'm thinking this is one of those indefinite delays . . .

Can I set up BT sharing from a public connection? Or are you thinking about from my notebook connection? You'd need a PC for BT internet sharing. It would retransmit WiFi or LAN access over BT. While that works from home or office...you can't access it at a hotspot without lugging your laptop. SOL. :(
