The end-result? Close to zero support for cities worldwide. That has now changed with today's release of Spb Weather 1.6 with support for over 4000 cities using the GisMeteo source. I just tested it out by plugging in a few cities around my area, and its accuracy is comparable to that of the weather.com source. The update also features improvements in the download engine. Spb Weather 1.6 is a free update for existing v1.x users. If you've yet to try it, you can download a free trial version and purchase the full version from our <a href="http://www.handango.com/ampp/store/PlatformProductDetail.jsp?siteId=311&productId=157838&productType=2">affiliate software store</a>.

I never understood this program. Isn't it missing one vital component of a weather program? Displaying the CURRENT temperature?

I recently purchased the v1.5 release and am finding this very useful. Traveling for my job every week, it's nice to know what weather to expect from planning what clothes to pack to trying to anticipate conditions for driving to my clients' office the next morning.

Keeping about a week's worth of forecast to-hand is very nice. And it's this caching approach that's quite the opposite of providing current information. Although I have an unlimited data plan myself, not everyone does; capturing the data when syncing is the best (if not) only approach for a lot of people.

There are plenty of other applications which offer current temperatures.

Some people prefer forecast applications, and for them, Spb Weather works well. In addition, it integrates with Spb Diary, which is a plus.

When Spb still used the weather.com template, I could get 14-ish days of forecasts for my location in a download. Then they dropped that source and I had to go with a weathernetwork template from pdagold.com to get my location, and that had only seven days of forecasts with higher data consumption per download. The new gismeteo source still does not have my location so I still need to use the pdagold template. Do you know if/when they may reimplement the weather.com source?

I've noticed a drop in the number of days as well. I used to get around 14 with weather.com, but I'm only getting 5 with GisMeteo. :(

No idea, unfortunately. :(

For me (living in the UK) this is the best weather app out there. The killer is being able to get my weather direct from any "Local" weather source. In my case bbc.co.uk. weather.com and the like that other programs use are almost "always" wrong with the UK weather forecast.

Wow, the forcast for my city is way off. It has rain for the next 3 days solid but weather.com has it for today and tomorrow morning as did my local tv station this morning. Plus the temperatures were all off by about 2-5 degrees every day. not good. I am gonna stick with the user made weather.com template.

Yes it is!!

Since I already have a weather program, I don't want to have to install another one just to get the current temperature -- this feature seems like a no-brainer to me.

I've asked the developer about that and he said it was under consideration.

I hate to be stupid here. But can someone tell me what exactly is a template?

I want to add more weather sources to get forecasts. Is that what the templates are for? If not what are some good weather sources?

TIA

I thought I'd post this just in case anyone else was seeing it...

After I tried to upgrade from 1.5 to 1.6 without first deactivating 1.5 (you can't replace a running program -- although you should be able to install the upgraded components and have the OS do the replacement thing on reset, I guess this can't be done in WM5) I kicked myself and got my Weather upgraded.

HOWEVER, it looks like I am now suffering from a bug. I also have Spb Diary installed and really like how Spb Weather integrates into the Calendar tab/mode in the group line/header. Occasionally, though, those group lines/headers are now vanishing (leaving the appointment entries listed without any of those line/headers between them so I can't see the dates to which the appts pertain). I have to go into the Calendar settings and tweak them, then go back to the Today screen to see them recovered.

Am I the only person suffering from this?

P.S. krisdb, burtcom makes an excellent point. If the software already does the hard work, i.e. downloading the data, parsing it and presenting it so nicely, why not have the option to do it continually? Why should someone have to download a second package for that second option? Quite right -- sorry I took so long to come around to seeing the sense in your original post.

I experienced this as well. I sent Spb a message about it this morning, and they usually reply in around 24 hours.

Jason Lee: Thank you! This is the template I've been searching for for several months! :D

I have not had this problem though i am currently running a beta of Diary so i don't know if that has anything to do with it.

And it's not like the temperature is usually going to change that fast -- refreshing once per hour while you're connected to the network will probably suffice.

...and that's already an option in the software. So it looks like Spb really did cover all the bases. Right?

Hi All,

We got a number of e-mails reporting the integration of new Spb Weather with Spb Dairy problem. The team is working on it right now and fix will be released ASAP. I estimate it as one-two days.

I see the fix (v1.6.1) is now available (http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/weather/download.html?en). Thanks for the update, Denis. :)

As a UK resident this sounds right up my street. Is there a template to use the BBC as a source?

TIA
