I give up.

Bought my IPAQ 4700 used, with WM5 already installed. I've tried all of these tweaks and frankly, the the performance went from abysmal to pathetic (a little better.) For example, when I hit the "start" button in the upper left hand corner, it takes about a second for the menu to paint itsself. "Tap and hold" has tunred into "tap and hold and nothing happens for two seconds." Just for fun I pulled out my old IPAQ 3950 and I was shocked when I realized how responsive it is compared to this new device.

Question 1: Is it possible to "downgrade" and put WM2003 on my device? Will this improve the performance?

Question 2: If I do so, what (good features) will I miss?

I'm hoping that it will work, else this device is going to EBAY.

Probably can.
Go onto HP's site and look for the downgrade utility.

Success! Works awesome with 2003 on it.

I HAVE DECIDED TO REPLACE MY 2215 RATHER THAN REPAIR IT AFTER IT GOT WET. (DON'T ASK)
ARE YOU SUGGESTING THAT I WOULD NOT BE HAPPY WITH A 2495 DUE TO THE DIFFERENT OPERATING SYSTEM?

Not neccesarily. While many believe that WM5 is generally not as snappy as WM2003, the biggest complaints come from users that have upgraded a WM2003 device to WM5, not from those that have a native WM5 unit.

My 1955 comes with WM5... and i really hate the new os. Where is the "new" button? I was used to it! and why all menus disapeared and instead i always have only two choices? also, itīs really a slower OS. Iīll be happy with 2003SE if possible. Sadly, not.
