The solution initially will be available on two of the hottest wireless devices in the market today: the Cingular 8100 series Pocket PC and Cingular 2125 Smartphone. Direct Push Technology delivers an enhanced mobile experience to organizations that use Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 by pushing updates to e-mail, calendar items, contacts and tasks as they arrive directly from the Exchange Server to the devices. MSFP additionally enhances these Windows Mobile-powered Cingular Wireless devices by delivering improved device management and added security features for IT administrators, like over-the-air device password policy enforcement and remote wipe of the device in case of loss or theft."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/wey-20060614-Cingular.gif" /><br /><br />It's here - well, almost. Those of you with either the Cingular 8100 series Pocket PC Phone Edition or the Cingular 2125 Smartphone can look forward to the delivery of the MSFP update that enables Microsoft's direct push e-mail solution. On June 19, you'll be able to download the free update from <a href="http://www.cingular.com/microsoft">this link</a> (which at the moment, points to nothing).

AKU2.x has been used by cingular users for a long time already... along with other wizard owners through enterprising users posting generic updates to the internet. I am surprised that there aren't more people doing the same before now.

I've been testing out the Cingular 8125 with the MSFP myself (our company has been talking to Cingular about a possible business deal)... very nice!

i dont think the OP should have skipped over the part where Suckular is going to try and rip people off for another $5 ON TOP OF the already ridiculous $40 PDA connect plan. This is the epitomy of greed. That $5 gets you absolutely nothing as it has already been proven by numerous people that you do not need any extra forms of service to make DirectPush work. It is very dirty and underhanded for them to ask for more money.

I would encourage anyone who is asked to sign up for this even more expensive plan to just walk out the door and get the ROM from xda-developers. Customers should NOT be charged for something that their phone is already quite capable of doing for free.

Don't EVEN say anything about increased data usage...that is a farce on so many fronts.

^^^^ wait, wait, wait.......

I'm confused... :?

You mean. that I will have to pay $$ to download the upgrade? or pay a monthly fee just for direct push? :?

You can attribute that to the fact that I don't live in the US and know nothing about what is deemed to be ridiculous pricing over there. ;)

Lucky you don't live in some other parts of the world. In such cases, I'd say Cingular's data costs are bliss.

The upgrade is free.

I think what inteller is referring to is a price hike on new 2125/8125 devices sold.

you dont live here and you are reporting on American carriers why?

anyways, the way Suckular is going to shaft you is they are going to hold out on the updates so you have to come to them, and at the time of your upgrade they are going to ask you to bend over and stick it to you with another $5 per month to use functionality that is built into the phone and has been proven can work for free without ANY intervention from the carrier. In short, they are punishing you for wanting to make your device more secure.

Hopefully an enterprising individual will sneak this update out of Cingular and get it on XDA developers so we can all do our own upgrades and not be faced with this billing foisting from hell.

Because it was decent news, no one claimed it during the day, so I jumped on it. Not sure why a public service announcement is enough to draw criticism. :?

It also begs the question. If you are that unhappy with Cingular, why buy a device from them in the first place? There are plenty of other fish in the sea.

The press release states that the MSFP update will be a free download starting June 19. For the 8100 series, the data plan is $44.99, while the 2125's is $29.99.

You'll need some sort of data plan in order to make use of the push; whether the aforementioned plans are your only option is something I'm unsure of. Cingular is likely to reveal more on the 19th.

The link was alive on the 18th, but still pointed to an old ROM. The new ROM was active since 9:30 AM today (Jun 19). And it looks like congular got it all wrong. The archive is Corrupt !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. I even tried extracting it with WinRAR. The timestamp on the file says (Jun 15th). I can't beleive the morons at HTC/Congular did not bother to test it even once within the 4 day period before launch. MORONS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man. The update file is corrupt on their WebServer: http://www.htcamerica.net/docs/RUU_Wizard_225111_22511102_022511_CWS_WWE_Ship.exe

I download it yesterday and the file was 39.5MB I have tried to download it several times with no success and the file is always 39.5MB. The last update they publish for ROM 1.8 it was 53.7MB in size.

When you run the 2.25 setup it gives the following error:

"The contents of this file cannot be unpacked. The executable you are attempting to run has been corrupted. Please obtain another copy of the file, verify its integrity, and try again."

I sent and email to '[email protected]' with the error code. Lets see what happens.
