<div class='os_post_top_link'><a href='http://www.gpcarreon.com/?p=378' target='_blank'>http://www.gpcarreon.com/?p=378</a><br /><br /></div><i>"Here is a desktop utility &lt;500Kb in size I call NukAS, pronounced nook-ass for Nuke Active Sync. What exactly does it do? Well, you can instantly kill running ActiveSync processes (saves you from terminating the process using the Windows Task Manager) or re-establish connection using the green button without the need to restart your machine (desktop or device)."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/parekh-20060526-NukAS.jpg" /><br /><br />ActiveSync 4.x has an annoying habit of reestablishing a connection, even if the sync has been stopped or the Pocket PC is off. This is a free little tool that lets you actually stop the sync <i>and</i> restart it when appropriate. (Not quite sure why Microsoft doesn't, you know, offer an exit option. Oh, wait. I guess that would make the "Close" button real, like all other desktop applications.)

Interesting but:
it supposes that you have ActiveSync installed on x:/Program Files folder. But if you have, like me, Italian XP, it won't work because ActiveSync is installed in x:/Programmi. Just because I don't want to reinstall it in Program Files folder, any suggestion to correct application targets?

For the most part, my AS stays asleep until there is something that needs to be sync'd. I like that it syncs automatically and instantly without my interference. That's why I have no need for this utility.

Admittedly though, I have had times when AS woke up my PPC on its own without me knowing what was going on, but that happens too seldom for me to care.

It's certainly not for everyone -- in my case, I rarely connect my Treo to my computer, preferring to sync wirelessly via Exchange, so it's a non-issue.

@echo off
taskkill -im rapimgr.exe -f
taskkill -im wcesmgr.exe -f
taskkill -im wcescomm.exe -f
echo AS killed!

That's what I use all the time :)

Or, for that matter, from ActiveSyncToggle?

Answer: NukAS has an explore button. :wink:
