Stop SMTP Email When Connected Through ActiveSync?

I have changed jobs to a company with a very specific internet usage policy (pretty much none at all), and have my Cingular 8125 set up to download email from two different SMTP accounts. As far as I can tell, on initial sync, even with scheduled email checks disabled, ActiveSync still tries to connect to the SMTP server. I would really like it to still check my SMTP accounts on a scheduled frequency.

So long story short, is there an easy fix to disable SMTP email check while connected via USB activesync?

Any help would really be appreciated.
