Anyone have any tips on increasing performance of internet explorer on a HP iPAQ Rx 1950? Mine takes forever to load page with a lot of data like forums and often just locks up requiring me to do a soft reset.

Any tips on optimizing for IE performance are welcome.

That's because the inferior RAM size of your device and can't be really helped unless

1, you use page content ripping services like Skweezer and MobileLeap (please see http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=360414 for more info)

2, you switch to a browser with far less memory requirements; for example, Thunderhawk (see http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/index.php?action=expand,42026 for more info )

Wow this is becoming REALLY aggravating. I tried skweezer which works great until you have a website that requires to to log or something. I don't think you can log into MSN sites through a proxy or something.

So then I tried to install toonel with CrEme follwing the guide here: http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=430&more=1 and configuration instructions here: http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/menneisyys/ConfigureToonel45.asp and when I try to run the program from my programs menu I get a message that says "The file 'CrEme' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannnot be found. You might need to restore this file."

I'm really getting sick of this. I got this PDA expecting it to actually have useful functionallity and all this jumping through hoops that don't even work is making me want to smash this thing.

Oh yeah, and now since I went through the configure toonel proxy server thing I can't get PIE to load any webpages at all.

You can log into any site using Skweezer, as with most of the alternatives (see http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=360414 ). Are you sure you haven't managed to log in?

That's because you're trying to use CrEme 3.26 or 4.0, which isn't WM5-compliant. Get version 4.1 instead, which works just great with WM5.

Unfortunately, all low-end devices like the rx1950 have severe problems like this. This is why, for example, I strongly suggest AGAINST getting any WM5 device with 32M RAM only.

Just untick the proxy checkbox in the operating system.

Just untick the proxy checkbox in the operating system.

I tried that, it still won't load webpages. I'm not sure what the problem is. If I can get it working I'll try skweezer, however when I was browsing the XBOX forums through it and tried to post or log in I got a message that skweezer couldn't display the page I was requesting.

Check it once more - does the "proxy" checkbox remain unchecked?

Instead of Skweezer, I'd go for MobileLeap. It's, generally, better.

Yeah, under Connections under settings, the only thing ticked is "This network connects to the Internet." the "This net work uses a proxy server to connect to the Internet" box is unticked and the proxy server field is greyed out.

When I launch PIE it says "locating" at the bottom and then I get a pop-up that says the site can not be found, check the name and try again.

I'm at my wits end, I think I'm going to do a hard reset to restor the factory settings....

Yup, it's the best to HR the device and NOT use Toonel - Toonel alone will take up some 2-3 Mbytes of RAM with CrEme 4.1. However, give a try to MobileLeap - it's not Toonel-based, so, it can't mess up your device.
