Hi, I posted a little while ago about 5.0 upgrade problem, well I can
get it to connect, but 5.0 sucks. Does anyone know where I can get
the rom to put it back to stock? My CD was damaged so if it's on there
I cannot get it?

Anyways, goodbye 5.0..

If anyone knows where I can get the previous rom I update I
would appreciate it.

From the vendor.

If you bought the CD you can call them and you can download the full CD as well. Or, of course, repurchase the CD.

Any other route would be illegal.

Uh...That's not quite correct.

You can download the latest 2003 SE ROM for the 4700/4705 right off HP's web site. And updated drivers for all the important stuff. That's what I did Tuesday evening to get my 4700 back in shape. There is something nice about really starting clean again.

See if this link works:

If not, just go to http://www.hp.com and work your way through the menus for support for the business handhelds.

My mistake, I thought that was just the XIP update, not the full ROM.

The gist is the same, you have to get your ROM's from the manufacturer :)

As to WM5 on your 4700 - why was it so bad? Did you let it sit like some have said to allow the compaction process to finish?

I remain on 03SE to see if any updates or fixes come out - but it sounds like the ROM is slow on the 4700

I have the PPCTechs 128M memory upgrade, so the ROM memory in this is different. Do we know if its the memory itself or the memory controller that causes the slowness?

Well, I have several problems.

First, it will not sync. I've tried different computers,
different active sync versions and so forth. The antivirus
is not the problem and I've tried with and without. It just
will not connect so even if I had the older version I cannot
install it.

Second, I downloaded the rom flash from the site, but I'm
not sure if that's even the full version? Anyways, when run it
still requires a file from the cd, which I don't have because it
is damaged.

I'm not about to spend money to buy a replacment cd, when
its HP's fault that I'm in this situation in the first place. They
shouldn't of released this nightmare.

So the bottom line is that I have a 600 dollar paper weight.

dig into the thread on the 4700 update to Wm5. Many went back to 03SE.

There is a USB boot mode that doesnt require Activestink. Did you also try a clean reset? (also documented in that thread).

http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=394438

People there had lockups and other problems, I'm sure if you contact some of them they can help.

Call HP, I'm sure they will setup you being able to download the CD - as long as you have proof of purchase, which you have since you bought the CD (they'll have it on record).

Yeah, I tried that a few times.. nothing..

It's not even trying to connect.. I just re-installed
4.1 since I don't have anything else to try and was
going to maybe re-install 5.0 to see if that would
fix the problem, but 5.0 cannot even connect to
it. I don't even get sync errors, no connection at
all. I tried activating active sync on the IPAQ and
that didn't work either.

It just flat out will not respond.

I tried connecting to with my desktop computer that has 3.8 on it and
it cannot detect the ipaq at all. It's a work machine and only has phatnotes and I use it for syncing outlook 03. It should of seen
the ipaq aleast, but doesn't detect it.

I hate to say it, but I'm getting extremely upset.

3.8 will not see it at all - its completely different code.

I would reach out to the folks in that other thread I mentioned that had the same problems. If you can get a clean rest (something like all four App buttons and reset switch) then do a USB boot to get to the USB bootloader screen then you can reload WM5. I saw some people had success after reloading it and letting it sit for a day untouched on the cradle to run the compaction.

Will BT connect? can you do a AS via BT? wifi synch is no longer supported but BT is.

I've had it with HP, I'm tired of dealing with the corporate garbage
and they have put a bad taste in my mouth. They got me so angry
the IPAQ in a million pieces now.

NO, I'm not kidding. I no longer want anything to do with Pocket pc's.

If you want pictures.. e-mail me. bye
