Is there a downloader (where I just give it the URL and it downloads the file to the specified location) available for the pocket pc?

everytime i click on a cab file in pocket ie or in netfront (ppc2k3se), it tries to view the file and is no good to me. I want to download it. Overall, for images, html files, and a lot of stuff, i think a seperate download program will work best for me.

it'd be ideal if it was also an acceleartor (where it simply opens up more than once connection).

is there such a program available? it's hard to search for a program like this as the search results aren't very relative.

thanks

Please read http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=466&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1 . Also note that I still havent' reviewed WinMobile Download Accelerator ( http://www.adisasta.com/WinMobileDA.html ), which, according to many, is the best download app for the PPC.

tried WMDA (linked above) and I have to say it SUCKS.

For one thing, when i try the accelerator part, as in download mutliple sections simulatenously, and the default was 5 i believe, it was actually slower.

I was never able to get above 14KB/s.

So I changed it to download only 1 section at a time and I was maxed at 25KB/s.

I tried to download in NetFront, and although I'm not given an accurate reading and didnt' bother to time the download, I would say it is AT LEAST 2X faster.

I'll try other programs later. WMDA's UI is kinda clunky too... it's like an HTML page or something and kinda laggy.

All in all I would not recommend it to anyone.

Oh yeah, I set the TEMP and INCOMING directories to my SD card for WDMA, and I always save directly to my SD card in NF 3.2 as well. I did try setting the temp folder to ram in WDMA and saw no increase in speed.
------------------

Now, after using hte program, I think there's some sort of registry key for Pocket IE to say what files to view and what to download. For example, now if i click on a WMV, it tries to view the file (of course it's garbled text) instead of download it. I think uninstalling WMDA did this.

Which makes me think there's some sort of registry entries that say which to download and which to view (ex, jpg view, zip download, etc). You could add to the list of what to download in WMDA.

Does anyone know where these registry keys are located?

Thanks

Unfortunately I am not aware of a registry repair utility for the Pocket PC to fix your problem, but if the problem is caused by left over registry entries left on your device after the uninstall, then you might be interested in trying the trial version of Pocket Mechanic which includes a registry cleaner.
