How does this compare to nPOPw? I tried to do a side-by-side comparison myself, but there doesn't seem to be much difference. Am I missing something?
nPOPw was based off of the last version of nPOP from 2002. The autor of nPOPw used the origial source code and added in support for read recipits and email priorities. He also integrated his nPOP contact importer which he had writed to use with the original nPOP.
So the new version of the original nPOP loses these additions. No read recipit support, no priority support for emails, and no contact importer.
The only thing I miss is the contact importer. Even though the nPOPw author's page is long gone Freeware PPC still has his contact importer app. :)

It will import all of your contacts into a file called address.lst. You can set the program to automatically place the file in your nPOP install folder. It will even backup your previous address list.
You may also choose what format to import your contacts in. I would suggest using "Firstname Lastname" or "Lastname Firstname". I tried "Lastname, Firstname" and when i sent an email to my self it tried to send 2 emails. One to
[email protected] and one to
[email protected]. So it uses the "," as an address seperator. So I went with "Firstname Lastname". The are still sorted by last name though which is nice. :D
I did have a little trouble getting the contact importer to install on my k-jam so if you have any trouble PM me. I manually extracted the exe from the cab and just dropped it into my nPOP install folder.
Also if you want SSL support for gmail or something else make sure to get the zipfile with the three dll's at the bottom of the page. Simply drop these in the same folder with nPOP.exe.
To setup gmail simply put pop.gmail.com as your mail server on the pop3 and smtp tabs. The only thing i have checked on the pop3 tab is "enable SSL" and on the smtp tab i checked "enable smtp-auth" and "enable ssl".
Works like a charm. :)
If you have security enabled on your WM5 device you will get a warning the first time you try to send/recieve using ssl as it will load the dll. say yes and it will never ask you again.
When setting up my work email account i had a bit of trouble with the smtp ssl. If you click on the setup button beside the enable ssl check box you can choose what type of ssl your server uses. This can be set different for your pop and smtp servers incase they happen to use different types of ssl. I didn't know but there were only four options to try so i got it pretty quick. :) My pop server worked fine with the "Auto" setting as did gmail pop and smpt. However my work smpt server i had to set manually. So that might be something to look out for if you have any trouble with ssl.
