I can’t connect my brand new hx2795 with XP PRO using Active Sync 4.0 and 4.1.
My very old Viewsonic V35 is connecting, syncing and working just fine. This V35 uses MS Pocket PC ver. 3.0.11171 and has a intel pxa250 processor .
The HX 2795 I upgraded to and that uses WM 5.0 is not working at all. Activesync just freezes when I connect the PPC to the PC via USB.
I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled several times Activesync 4.0 and 4.1,and Outlook 2002.
thanks in advance for the help.

Do you have any firewalls running? The ActiveSync 4.x + Windows Mobile 5.0 combo works a little differently to what you're used to.

First, it's advised that you install ActiveSync v4.1, as that solves a few v4.0 bugs. Second, check this page (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/help/activesync/default.mspx) and see if the solutions provided are of any help. Half the ActiveSync 4.x issues experienced by many are network-related, so you'll have to do a bit of firewall-tweaking and network management to get things up and running smoothly.

Darius Wey : Thanks for the help. I already upgraded to 4.1 with the same results. I use zone alarm free edition with “internet zone security – low (off) and the trusted zone security – low (off). I’ve even tried it with zone alarm completely deactivated. Does it apply the same as the security suite? And also, I have a 3com wireless router that has 1 pc wired and 1 laptop wireless. I will try it out and hope all goes well despite my very very limited knowledge in the matter. I’ll post my results. Thanks again.

The ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite is simply a fully-featured security package, which includes a more advanced version of the free personal firewall you're using. The interface is the same, so you can follow the steps outlined on both this page (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/help/activesync/default.mspx) and this page. (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/help/activesync/zone.mspx)

If after all that, it fails, we'll start looking other possible causes.

Darius Wey :
I have deactivated zonealarm completely for testing purposes.
I deleted and created a new partnership for my hx.
From the microsoft page:
“ActiveSync 4.0 USB Connection Troubleshooting Guide
In some specific cases, Windows Mobile device connectivity to a Windows PC running Microsoft ActiveSync 4.0 may experience connection problems. This document will describe the known issues, and how you can resolve them.
*Please note that ActiveSync 4.1 ………….
ActiveSync also uses the following ports for communication to/from these processes:
Inbound TCP:
990
999
5678
5721
26675
Outbound UDP:
5679”

How do I open to Activesync 4.1 the inbound and outbound ports?
thanks again

Is your device refusing to sync even with the firewall disabled? If so, check to see your device has a valid and working IP address. Click Start > Control Panel > Network & Internet Connections > Network Connections, double-click the "Local Area Connection" entry for the "Windows Mobile-based Device", click the Support tab, and list here the contents of that tab.

The ports that you mentioned earlier are opened in ZoneAlarm by placing a zero port restriction for ActiveSync's components (see Step 9 of this page (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/help/activesync/zone.mspx)).

Eskimo...How long have you had yuor HX2795 and have you ever been able to get it to Sync? I had the same problem with my HX2790 when I first got it. I'm also running XP Pro. It turned out that the unit I got was defective. It wouldn't sync at all even when you tried to locate it with Active Sync 4.1. My first HX2790 actually had a bunch of problems...the IR on it only worked once, then never again and the battery on it got really hot one day and drained the unit within 1/2 hr after a full charge. I exchanged it for a new one and the problems were fixed. The new one linked right away. The other thing to remember too is that if you have another unit using Active Sync on your PC your HX2795 won't sync. I still have my Jonada 568 hooked up to my PC and I always have to un sync it first before syncing my HX2790.
