<a href="http://www.mbo.com">http://www.mbo.com</a><br /><br /><i>"With Mobile Box Office™, you can purchase and receive movie tickets via your mobile phone. Imagine the convenience of buying your tickets anytime, anywhere from the palm of your hand. Then skip the box office, forget the printer, and go straight to the usher. The usher scans the ticket from your phone and you are in!! MBO is proud to be launching at Emagine Theaters as they always seek to provide you the best experience in theater entertainment. That is why they are the first in offering you the convenience of MBO™."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/hansberry/2006/20060120-mbotickets.gif" /><br /><br />You need a mobile phone with a color screen and it helps to live in Detroit, which is where the theater is. Unfortunately, at this time, don't bother trying this with your Pocket PC. The site doesn't recognize the device as a phone but as a PC, so it doesn't work. :? Perhaps if one of you lives in the area you can contact them and help them with the Pocket PC/Smartphone browser strings so it will work with Windows Mobile.

They could get rid of the usher as well. All they need to do is mount the bar code reader into a turn style of some kind.

I think that they should place their efforts at keeping cell phones out of the theater.

Maybe this is a way that ushers can collect cell phones when people enter the theater

I've been doing something similar to this with my Tablet or PDA on my Blockbuster membership. Every month they send you two coupons for free movie rentals. I always either forget them on the printer. So, I've discovered that all I need to do is bring up the page where they're printed from and have them either scan the code or just read the numbers off to the clerk. Works like a charm.

Does anyone know more about this... for example are they using a standard barcode scanner?

I ask as I have tried in the past to scan barcode images displayed on my ppc screen and was unsuccessful.

imho, this approach has potential... for example, I currently carry four barcoded cards which would be a natural to offer when needed using the ppc instead od digging for a card.

CompUSA did something similar with coupons back in 2000. All you had to do was show the cashier your coupon on your device, (I was using a Cassiopeia E-125 back then) and you'd get whatever the discount was.

Actually, they showed off that feature during the 3GSM keynote earlier this month. It's very cool :P
