http://www.softick.com/

Softick Card Export II increases the connectivity options of a Pocket PC by making it appear as a mass storage device when connected to a computer (that's right - no ActiveSync needed). Back when it was first released in May 2005, Card Export II supported Pocket PCs running Intel PXA25x and PXA27x processors and Windows Mobile 2003/2003SE. Then in September, TI OMAP support was added. Samsung ARM-based processors (S3C2410 and S3C2440) were added to the compatibility list later in November. And just recently, Windows Mobile 5.0 support was introduced, so head over to Softick and grab the updated version if you haven't already.

Additional details on Card Export II can be found here, and news of the Windows Mobile 5.0 support can be found on the Softick home page.

Seems like it still doesnt work on Dell Axim x50 and X51 with WM5.

There is a thread about this in the WM5 section at aximsite.

Darius,

Have you tried this on your m600?

I tried about a month ago on my m500 and wasn't sure if it was supposed to work or not. Their compatibility for the Samsung processors seems to be only focused on the HP devices.

I didn't get it to work but it may have been just me.

No, not yet. When I get around to it, I'll post my findings here.

Despite somewhat of a rough start (requiring a few soft resets) I have this up and running nicely on my K-Jam!

I can't get it to install at all on my e830. It keeps complaining about windows\ce2.dll

I did a soft reset without WA and PocketPlus running. It still complains.

The fact that Microsoft does not include this as a built in feature of the OS just floors me. Every digital camera I have used has this ability, and yet Microsoft chooses to not include this. Bizarre!!

Actually they said WM5 would include this feature but they must have forgotten about it as they where busy bloating the OS!

Oh you have won my heart  . You have said which I always wanted.. I dont know why MS always cripple their products. Though they have named their devices as "pocket pcs" but they are not at all desktop brothers..i mean if they are really pocket computers then why do they need a software to connect to ppc.
why not just provide the drivers the way they have included for removable drives just me and my 50 cents.

Actually they said WM5 would include this feature but they must have forgotten about it as they where busy bloating the OS!

Not only bloating it, but also removing the ability to reply to emails and send them through any account other than the one it came in on, like previous versions allowed, and making it nearly impossible to uninstall software or upgrade it on the device, and removing handy buttons from Pocket IE and Messaging, like refresh, home, send/receive. On top of all that, here we are 5 years after the initial OS release, and still no native printing support, nor any printing apps available as addons. I could go on and on, but understand that all in all I am happy with the new OS for 2 reasons: Persistent Storage and Better Battery Life. One more thing, and this may be just HTC Wizard specific, but Bluetooth works like a dream on my Qtek 9100.

Where did they say they were going to include the feature? As far as I know it has never been promised. In any case, I don't know how critical it is as a feature. I have a SD card in my Pocket PC that has a USB port built into it, and that makes a far more convenient "USB stick" than my Pocket PC, for which I'd have to carry a clumsy USB cable around. The unit also has Bluetooth, with which I can do File Exchange with. And, on my main PCs, I've already got ActiveSync installed. Do people really carry their USB cable(s) around everywhere?

In any case -- it's great a third-party is doing this for those who need it. :)

It's more of a W?BIC kind of program in a sense. I use it every so often at school on lab computers. I carry a retractable USB cable for sync'ing and so I can simply grab that out of my bag and head down to the lab for a simple file transport. Although most of the time, I'll just transfer dirctly from Logmein Pro's file transfer utility. I think I like this program most because it allows me to do something that I believe the OS should support already, and gives me a reassuring feeling that I can get my files off should I wind up on a foreign non-activesync-laced computer.

Sure we do. Ever since they took away WiFi Sync ;) I actually have extra cables at work where I do like to transfer files sometimes without syncing or going through the connect as guest dance. If all the OEMs were as nice as HTC and used mini-usb as the standard connector, finding a cable would be less of a problem.

Your USB/SD is neat, but seen a USB/miniSD yet. For my K-Jam, I'd need a cable or a card reader and adapter.

Good, solid soft. Does what it says, works perfectly on iPaq 6340, and transfers files much much faster than Activesync .

It proved invaluable when Activesync 3.8 'died' on me for 2 months (without any cause that I could identify). It simply refused to 'get connected' despite going thru all the various troubleshooters & visiting Herrera's helpsite. And then 2 weeks ago, again without me doing any changes, it came back to life again...

Amen, preach it brother !!! I absolutely love the fact that I can pick up a Sync or Charging cable for my Qtek 9100 by going to just about ANY computer store, or just by digging around my office for any one of the Mini USB cables that comes with any of a number of devices. Standardizing is the way to go. Is it not awesome that a computer power cord is the same for all computer power supplies, and almost all routers, swithches, etc.? Is it not great that just about every peripheral for a desktop PC connects via USB ? I have had over 10 different Pocket PC's and Palm devices over the last 6 years and have had to buy at least 5 different sets of chargers, sync cables, cradles, and adapters. Before getting my Qtek 9100 I had to shell out a small fortune for this stuff. Now I can pick up a Mini USB cable for around 5 bucks. :D

I would love to have this built into the OS, it's true that you can do this with BT and AS, but AS is not common to all PCs and BT is also not commonplace, not to mention that MS SP2 BT is not particulary full featured.
This is actually the only way to be able to conect your PPC to any PC out there. And I don't know about the others, but I have my SD card in PPC as small HD that should be there permanently - I really hate removing it.

Bingo this is my only complaint about this product (and its not the product itself its the implementation of use)... the fact that I have to carry around media just to install this on a PC I happen to want to use as a reader. If this was something built into the OS and allowed you to just plug in where you needed with no software load at all I would be happy.

Understood. However, I find it so incredibly convenient, with the Sandisk Ultra II Plus SD (http://www.sandisk.com/Products/Catalog(1096)-SanDisk_Ultra_II_SD_Plus_Cards.aspx), that I wouldn't go back to carrying a cable if I could help it.

I guess I'm trying to say that on the wishlist of things I wanted in WM5, this isn't the top one. It would be nice to have, but between such cards, memory sticks, BT, and AS, and now this software, it can be easily worked around.

Yup. when it works, it works well. Have it on my X50v and got some use out of it. Tried it on my JasJar last night. Not only did it not work, took me half an hour to get it off and get AS working again.
