Bill will deliver the opening keynote on Wednesday, January 4 at 6:30 P.M. Pacific in the Las Vegas Hilton Theater. In his keynote, Gates will share Microsoft’s vision for the future of consumer technology, highlighting the important role of software in developing and delivering innovation that benefits the industry, our partners, and people everywhere. If the past is any indication, expect the unexpected. Bill has used his keynote address at CES in the past to unveil new products ranging from Xbox and Tablet PC to Smartphones. And with Microsoft’s strong lineup of innovative new products scheduled to launch in 2006, including Windows Vista, this year’s keynote will provide a glimpse at the important new technologies that will be shaping the industry."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/hansberry/webcast.gif" /><br /><br />You can download the <a href="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/hansberry/2006/20060102-webcast.ics">calendar appointment here</a> that should automatically adjust to your locale, thanks to the timezone feature. :) I can't get that link to work in a Pocket PC - PIE just opens up the raw text. :| <a href="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/hansberry/2006/20060102-webcast.zip">Try this zip file</a> instead if you are viewing this on your Pocket PC, then tap on the ICS file in the zip file. You might want to stick with the 100KB presentation, or at least be prepared to switch to it. Too many times I've tried 300kbps and it stops and stutters too much.

So its not so much a keynote as one long advertisement. This is pretty much why I've never cared for Gates's KN. At least with something like Apple's MacWorld you know that its a Mac event and as such you expect Jobs to focus on their wares. With CES it would be nice if the keynote didn't focus on one company's wares. Doubtless Gates is going to be pushing Vista HARD. Prob the XBOX360 == Vista connection most of all.

Don't Panic!

Honestly, that's what I've come to expect in Gates' keynotes, and I don't really mind it. The demos his goonies do at his keynotes are always amazing. Microsoft holds most of the desktop OS market and like any sane company, is always wanting more. What else should they talk about? Technology innovations in general? Nah, we get that the rest of the week with other CES reports. Gates has earned the right to brag a little, and a couple hours on a Wednesday night, I'll be watching to see what cool stuff Microsoft has in store for the next few years.
