If you're not like me though, then you might want to check out VITO ActiveTrace. It tracks everything from speed and acceleration to current position and the whereabouts of your friends. It's available for $29.99 from Handango with a free trial version if you wish to test it first. When you go skying can you 'check' if the sofware registers the actual speed (taking the vertical displacemnt into account as well, or just horizontal speed?

Here is my short review of this program:

I started the program, created a new session and pocketed my axim (X50v).
About 2 hours and 8.8 km later i picked up my axim and it was turned off!

Ok so I turned on my axim and was met by a message saying that the demo was limited to 30 minutes. I could live with that but niether the speed or alititude graph would work all i got was a red line at the bottom and the track view would only show a short section of the course i had taken...

So I turned of the program [insert angry words here] only to find that I only had 2,5 megs of ram left, talk about a memmory leak!

On top of that no other program could access the com port i had selected for my GPS so i had no other option but to soft reset.
To my big surprise the program gave me the message "Invalid track" when I started it and halted for a few seconds and after that the session I had previously recorded worked like a charm. Both the speed and altitude graph worked like a charm and so did the track view!

Overall I must say that even with the bugs I've encounterd I really like this program and I will most likely buy it!

We have to remeber that this is a 1.0 release I'm sure we'll see a 1.1 and 1.2 pretty soon that fixes the bugs mentioned above.
