<div class='os_post_top_link'><a href='http://m.gmail.com/' target='_blank'>http://m.gmail.com/</a><br /><br /></div><i>"Now you can access your Gmail account from your mobile phone or device. Just point your phone's web browser to <a href="http://m.gmail.com">http://m.gmail.com</a>. Your Gmail account stays synched, whether you access it from the web or the mobile interface. It's easy to use and it's free (but yes, your wireless plan could still charge you). It also has these cool features: automatically optimizes the interface for the phone you're using; opens the attachments you receive in messages, including photos, Microsoft Word documents and .pdf files; lets you reply by call to people whose phone numbers are in your Gmail Contacts list."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/wey-20051216-GmailMobile.gif" /><br /><br />There's <a href="http://mail.google.com/mail/help/about_whatsnew.html">something new</a> on the Gmail front. Long have you grown tired of Gmail's lack of proper support for mobile web browsers and now your prayers have been answered. <b>Everything</b> in Gmail is now mobile-friendly, from your inbox to your address book. Attachments are fully supported as well as contact dialing if you happen to have phone numbers assigned to your Gmail contacts. Now that's sweet! Simply launch Internet Explorer Mobile (or a suitable alternative) and visit <a href="http://m.gmail.com/">http://m.gmail.com/</a> for mobile e-mail goodness.

I've been fiddling with this for a few hours. :) Not quite everything is ready to go yet, though: it has difficulty detecting URLs in html-formatted messages.

Can you still access full-web version on pie? There are certain html emails I would like to read as html. I find that I am now only seeing the mobile version only. Is this a cookie problem?

It appears Gmail has now been configured to detect your browser version, so you'll automatically be delivered Gmail Mobile even if you visit http://www.gmail.com/

You should be able to bypass that if you configure your UserAgent to make PIE appear as IE6. Tweaks2K2.NET can configure that for you in one quick step. But if you're feeling adventurous and you have a registry editor available, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\User Agent and change the following:

"Version"="MSIE 4.01"
"Platform"="Windows CE"

to

"Version"="MSIE 6.0"
"Platform"="Windows NT 5.1"

This is great!!! Exactly what I have been wanting. The builtin Messaging client doesn't play with Gmail very well, so I have been using the web interface for about a month. Even though it was formatted for desktop it worked better than the b/i client.

Now I can have the best of both worlds!!! Proper formatting and display on my device, and easy retrieval of my email. Google you rock!

Thanks a lot for the news :) I recently switched from Yahoo to GMail (very happy with the switch btw) and all I was missing badly at this stage was the mobile version ... not anymore :D :D

Aaaagh! What a nightmare!

I hate Google and their quest for world domination, but their products are so good I just can't bring myself to leave them :snipersmile:

I bet you'll change your tune when the country is blanketed in cheap WiMax goodness. Overnight, cell phones and ISPs become obsolete. I for one welcome our new Google overlords. :)

I'm happy to see this for those who don't use Mobile Outlook, but I've been getting my Gmail directly into my PPC's inbox since around March or so...

Much easier than going online to check it, and TMO's my-email keeps me updated in an almost-push configuration (no more than a 15-minute delay, usually much less).

When I try to bring up m.gmail.com, I keep getting a "page cannot be found" dialog box. Same happens when I enter the IP. I can view other pages just fine, including mobile Google search, as well as download Gmail over POP. So this looks like a network or server problem. I'm running WM2003 on a 6315 using T-Mobile GPRS in Manhattan.

Sure, I'll send you one, just PM me your e-mail address.

IMO, the mobile version is just too limited. I would rather use the regular version in landscape mode. I can see where it would be good for a cell phone though, just not for the PPC.

Oops, forgot to refresh my browser. No need to PM me if you already have the invite.

You guys are asking too much from your PDA. The thing works like a beauty. Took me less than a minute to fire up my Ipaq's browser, point it to the URL and voila! I had access to all my emails from Gmail. I was previously using WebIS but the thing only works to download/upload emails. Limited use if you want to look for an archived thread. Thanks Google!!
