This may be a bit early to ask given Windows Mobile 5 devices just started shipping in the last few months, but that means I get to do this poll again in the spring. :D If you have more than one device, answer this for your favorite or most used device, the one you'd keep if you had to give all of your other devices away.

This was an easy answer. All 3 of my devices run WM2003SE.

2003 for me. Wow I'm two versions behind and the device it only a couple of years old.

Any news on Photon? After all, third time lucky :)

Wizard from o2..

First smartphone (4th WM device) I've had (don't count Nokias).. Couldn't be happier, apart from better one handed operation.

Two devices.
2003 HTC Himalaya and WM5 HTC Universal.
Contrary to some others I love WM5.

Only if you consider WM5 a step forward.

True. What do people think, a step forward or back?

Uhm, a Step forward, two sideways and two back.
Step forward: new features, two-softkey mode (yes, i actually liked that one), i can do lots of stuff w/o touching the screen, nice new gui, improvements in Pocket Word etc.
Steps sideways: No option to choose between close/minimize (yes, yes, yes, there is Wisbar, there is PocketPlus, and other task managers and I absoulutelly love WA2, but it would be nice to have the same feature built-in the OS). Still limited Pocket Word. Other minor stuff.
Steps back: Persistent Storage. Sloooooooooow. I don't care that i don't lose data when battery goes zero (we have backup apps...), when the device is sluggish, the file system performance is bad.

Using WM2003SE and waiting for WM5SE....

OS Shuffle here...

Upgraded to WM5 on my Axim X50v, gasped in horror from the performance hits, random hard resets (thank goodness for data backups)... Rolled back the OS and am now awaiting the first subsequent ROM update before giving it a go again.

Still running my X5 with 2003, haven't seen anything really worth updating to and as long as the X5 still keeps track of appointments and what not, what more do I need?

VGA would be nice, but I don't like how MS handles it.

I voted WM2003. I have an iPaq 5550 and an SMT5600, and the iPaq is by far the more useful to me.

This is a 2 X50v household. And one of us has a WM5 upgrade CD. However, it is just sitting on a shelf for now. I cannot stand the thought of upgrading - and making my PPC slower. As it is - it still annoys me sometimes when it makes me wait. Will they get smart enough that they can recover the performance they have given away with persistent storage?

I know its a primarily pocket pc site, but wouldnt including non pocket pc systems be more useful in this poll.

I agree totally. I've used WinCE/PocketPC/Smartphone/Windows Mobile devices literally since day one, but my smartphone is a Treo 650. Why? It just works. I don't run into any of the memory issues that I've had with every Windows Mobile, it's faster than any of the WM Smartphones I've owned (two of 'em at last count including a iMate SP3i) and I don't have to go scrounging around menus to find some of the applications that I want to run.

Had WM5 on my x50v for a week or so. Downgraded to good ol' 2003SE, which I will be keeping for as long as possible - or at least until most of the bugs are worked out of WM5!
