I am a big fan of Microsoft OneNote, so I have been hoping that MS would create a companion Mobile version for my trusty Pocket PC. I just happened to come across a blog entry that says that a mobile version is in the works!! Very cool!! But....as far as I can tell, it only mentions SmartPhones. Is there a chance that this new version won't target PocketPCs???

I thought I would post the link here just in case anyone else who might be interested would like to check it out...

The blog entery certainly seo be focused on smartphones rather than the Pocket PC flavour of Windows Mobile, but we can hope...

This would definatley be something I would be very interested in. Maybe we will end up with a mobile version of OneNote and a mobile version of EverNote (http://www.evernote.com/en/) to choose from

In addition, partners close to Microsoft, who requested anonymity, said there is another Office 12 deliverable on deck, as well. Tentatively called "Office 12 for Windows Mobile," the product will consist of viewers for Word, Excel and PowerPoint (along with some very limited editing capabilities for Word and Excel) — plus a new "OneNote Mobile" version of Microsoft's OneNote note-taking application. The mobile Office 12 suite is being designed to run on smart phones and PDAs, sources said.

Partners said that Microsoft is planning to include rights-management support for the Mobile Office family members, as well as support for XML as the default file format for the mini-suite. (The XML file format support will likely lag the rest of the mobile Office suite features, sources said).

OneNote Mobile is set to include note taking and viewing capabilities. And because it will be phone-based, it will be able to take advantage of built-in camera phones, allowing users to snap photos of whiteboards, documents or other source information, and then annotate and share that information from a smart phone or PDA, sources said.

Well that all sounds encouraging from the MS point of view. Not just the possibility of a OneNote Mobile but further improvements perhaps to the Mobile Office suite.

On the EverNote side, the admin on their user Forum had been indicating a end of Q3 release of a beta for the PDA version of EverNote, but that does not seem to have happened (at least not yet). I have just whipped off a quick email to them to see what the latest is.
