You may also want to read this review & quick hack (http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=319&more=1). The latter will greatly enhance the Recycle Bin functionality just introduced.

My K-JAM shows the SD card as "Storage Card" so I assume that your hack will not work.

You may also want to read this review & quick hack (http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=319&more=1). The latter will greatly enhance the Recycle Bin functionality just introduced.

Actually, here's some stuff you should know before trying the hack.

It looks like Resco creates a "~Recycled" on each storage device on your system -- I have one for the main memory and on my storage card. What you see on the Resco's recycle folder actually shows you the combination of what's in each "~Recycled" folder. When you empty the recycle bin items from each "~Recycled" folder are deleted.

This keeps in line with how recycle folders work on desktop machines.

In the Resco prefs you can set the amount to keep on the recycle bin before automatically deleting, or you can manually delete the bin, or set it to not use the bin.

What concerns me about the hack is how will Resco handle filename collisions when when items from memory and the storage card have the same name yet are being dumped to the same "~Recycled" folder? You might attempt to retrieve a file from the bin only to find it has been overwritten.

If you still want all of your recycled stuff to go to the storage card, but your storage card name is too long to work with the hack, there are registry settings to change the name of the storage card.

look in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageMachine\Pofiles\ then select your device types -- for example if you have a SD card select "SDMemory" and "SDMMC"

Under each of these is a key called "Folder" which should have the current name of your storage device -- change it to whatever you want then reboot.

Warning: your system will not be able to find any apps you've installed on the renamed card! Unless you want to go through the registry and set these again, I'd recommend doing this hack on a fresh card before you install anything to it.

A couple of thoughts:

- Clinton Fitch's review mentions a 30-day trial. With version 5.3 Resco has doubled this; users now have 60 days in which to see if they like it before buying.

- Recycle Bin = 'killer' feature? I've never understood this. I delete files when I am sure they are no longer needed. Otherwise I don't delete them. Is use of a Recycle Bin akin to setting one's clocks 15 minutes fast? A sort of buffer against reality? I've always hated having it on my PC, and empty it immediately upon deletion of files there.

- This version of RE has a ZIP bug, at least for me. I've written Resco reporting this in detail, but basically it no longer allows deletion of files inside ZIP archives. The previous version did not have this problem. 5.3 allows cut/paste operations to remove the files then update/verify the ZIP, but neither a tap&hold > delete nor select > tap delete icon on toolbar works in this one. Bit of a pain, but I'm sure they'll repair it soon. Anyone else confirming this? I'm using WM2003, and have tested on SD and RAM and found Resco has this problem while TotalCommanderCE and PocketRAR do not.
