Beginning on Oct. 31, Cingular will be the sole U.S. carrier for this sleek smart device, which delivers wireless email(1) and an array of applications that offer users access to the digital content and services they need for truly effective global communication and mobile productivity. The HP iPAQ hw6500 series is the first generally available Cingular-enabled device to have an integrated global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver.(2) Cingular will sell two versions of the Mobile Messenger, the hw6515 featuring a 1.3-megapixel camera and the hw6510, which will come without a camera. The HP iPAQ hw6500 series also boasts a unique combination of digital wireless voice and data capabilities, including access to Cingular's nationwide EDGE network,(1,3,4) built-in keyboard, and Bluetooth wireless technology.<br />Cingular's EDGE network is the largest and fastest national wireless data network in the United States, with availability in 13,000 cities and towns and along more than 40,000 miles of interstate highways."<br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/wey-20051018-CingulariPAQ.jpg" /><br /><br />It's taken a century, but the HP iPAQ hw6500 series has finally made it to the USA, thanks to an exclusive partnership between Cingular and HP. The device will be available for $449 on a two-year contract through Cingular stores, outlets, select authorised dealers as well as direct through <a href="http://www.hpshopping.com/">HPshopping.com</a>. This would have been great many months ago, but with the iPAQ hw6700 series just around the corner, I'm guessing a lot of you will hold off for now.

$450.00 is a bit much for a PDA that "should" be Subsidized by Cingular. At $450 I would expect it to be unlocked, which it is not. If Cingular takes $150.00 off it would be a great deal...

..wait until tomorrow before you get one, I am sure HP will recall it or it will be dropped by the big C.

I'm waiting for the Treo device next year - I think that is going to be the killer device. The form factor and style is better than this device. Plus, from what I hear, it will be on mobile 5 and hopefully with a better display too...

Any time I see devices like this the only thing I can think of is - ROUNDED EDGES. Guys! It's got to fit the the palm of someone's hand comfortably... where did they take their design lessons from - Toshiba?

I think the Treo will be a nice device, though it doesn't have all the features I originally hoped for. That aside, Windows Mobile 5.0 is a certainty, though from what I've seen and read, the display is still 240 x 240.
